A Multi-event, three-day festival of walks. A potluck Friday, a pasta
dinner Saturday evening a salmon BBQ and a free concert Sunday
afternoon. Five walk routes plus four Year-round events available for
those who want even more walking, Visit beautiful Whidbey Island for a
Volkswalking Extravaganza! See Washington's second oldest town with its
Victorian homes and small town stores. Walk across farm fields and to
the beach. See Jenne Farm, Admiralty Head Lighthouse and Fort Casey's
Artillery Bunkers. Fabulous Puget Sound and Mountain views on all walks.
And we haven't forgotten the fourth F in Volkswalking - Food!
The Trekkers are hosting a potluck dinner on Friday night, providing
lemonade, plates etc. Bring a dish to share and BYOB. On Saturday
evening Small Miracles is hosting a pasta dinner for $10. Small Miracles
provides assistance to people in the Coupeville area in need of medicine
and other medical care. All proceeds from the dinner go to Small
Miracles. On Sunday afternoon, The Town of Coupeville invites you to a
Salmon BBQ for $10 and a free concert in the park. Seating is limited
for the Pasta Dinner and the Salmon BBQ. Pre-registration is recommended.
Farm Heritage, 11 km rated 2, Canadian Rating: 2C. New Route. Walk along
country roads and across Sherman Farms in the Ebey's Landing Historical
Reserve to visit our agricultural culture past and present. See historic
Jenne Farm and pause for views across farmland to the Puget Sound,
Cascades and Olympics. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.

Whidbey Coast to Coast, 11/21 km rated 2, Canadian Rating: 2B. Walk on
paved and dirt paths and along country roads, across Ebey's Landing
Historical Reserve to Ebey's Landing beach. Watch for eagles, whales,
otters. Views overlooking Puget Sound to Port Townsend and the Olympic
Mountains. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special Programs:
National Heritage Walk; US A-Z - "C", Washington Challenges: Island
County; Mountains, Trails, Parks, Oceans. NW06.
Historic Town of Coupeville 5/10 km rated 2+, Canadian Rating: 2B . New
Walk around Coupeville seeing many Victorian homes and along main street
to the much photo'd Penn Cove Dock. Views of Mount Baker and the Cascade
Mountains. Join Mayor Conard on Friday evening for a special walk on
this route. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special Programs:
National Heritage Walk; US A-Z - "C" Washington Challenges: Island
County; Mountains, Trails, Parks, Flowers, Downtowns. NW06.
Fort Casey 5/10 km rated 2+, Canadian Rating: 2B (drive to start after
registering). Walk is entirely on roads and paths through Fort Casey
State Park and Seattle Pacific University land. Much of the walk is
through woods or along the cliffs overlooking the Puget Sound. View the
Fort Casey Artillery Bunkers and Admiralty Head Lighthouse. Not suitable
for strollers or wheelchairs. Special Programs: Lighthouse USA, National
Heritage Walk, US A-Z - "C" Washington Challenges: Island County;
Mountains, Trails, Parks, Oceans. NW06.
Penn Cove One-Way Walk 5/10 km rated 1+, Canadian Rating: 1B (SUNDAY
ONLY). This is a special walk with special times. Jump on the bus at the
Coupeville Recreation Hall and ride it 6.2 miles to the start of this
walk which will take you all along Penn Cove. Fabulous water and
mountain views the entire walk. Look for wildlife and Penn Cove Mussel
beds. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special Programs:
National Heritage Walk; US A-Z - Washington Challenges: Island County;
Oceans, Mountains. NW06.
AWARD: This award stands alone or you can build onto it at every Whidbey
VolksFest. The first year award is cast metal with a 6" red, white and
blue ribbon. $3 pre-registered until Sept. 1. $4 purchased on-site. The
second year (and future years) is a cast metal foot with "2" or "3"
engraved and can be attached to the ribbon from the first year. $3 if
ordered by Sept. 1. $4 at event. How many feet will you get? If you have
been before and didn't buy the first year medal, you can buy both medals
this year (previous year registration verified on-site.
Shirts: T-shirts (100% cotton) and sweatshirts (50/50) are available in
island green and sea blue. With an outline of Whidbey Island and Walking
Whidbey VolksFest silk-screened on the front and our famous footprints
on the back. These shirts are sure to be a great reminder of a fun
weekend. $15 for a t-shirt, $20 for a sweatshirt. $1 discount if ordered
when you pre-register. Sizes M-XL, Quantities limited.
Door Prizes: Door prizes awarded throughout the weekend. All registered
walkers are eligible. PRE-Registered walkers are eligible for special
door prizes (Largest Group and Farthest Traveled) as well as several
specially selected, randomly drawn prizes.
Silent Auction: Take advantage of the silent auction during the weekend.
Many wonderful items are up for grabs and all proceeds go to local

Distance: 15 km (9.3 miles) 6 km (3.7 miles)
Trail: Rating: 3
Walk on sidewalks, asphalt, bark, and gravel trails through Bellevue's
parks and residential areas on the Lake-to-Lake trail. Not suitable for
strollers or wheelchairs.
1+ 6km - Walk on asphalt, bark and gravel trails in the Mercer Slough
Nature Park. Suitable for strollers Not suitable for wheelchairs.
Miscellaneous: No pre-registration. Credit only event. Water and
restrooms at start/finish and along the route for 15km. Water and
restrooms at start/finish ONLY for 6km. Pets are NOT permitted!
15km walk is a one way walk with bus transportation from Overlake
Blueberry Farm to Weowna Park, then walking back to start/finish.

McChord AFB - Directions and maps to the event start point will be
available at the base front gate. You will need to obtain a driving pass
for admittance onto the base. You will need to provide a current drivers
license, car registration and proof of insurance.
Event Description: McChord AFB and the Evergreen Wanderers Sizzlin' Hot
Global Walk - This 10km walk will take participants through forests and
across open fields providing breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier and the
Cascade Range. You will also have the opportunity to view the military
aircrafat static displays. We will offer a 5km trail which is rated a 1
making it wheelchair and stroller friendly. This trail also provides
great views of the majestic Pacific Northwest scenery, wetlands and a
pond on the optional gravel loop.

10 km May Creek Walk
Start Point: HomeStreet Bank, 6949 Coal Creek Parkway SE, Newcastle, WA
Directions: I-405 Exit 10 (Coal Creek Pkwy) Northbound RIGHT/Southbound
LEFT at bottom of exit ramp. Continue on Coal Creek Pkwy for 3 miles to
Safeway Shopping Center on the right. HomeStreet Bank is located to the
far left of the Safeway. PARK AWAY FROM BUSINESSES.
Information: Walk on sidewalks, road shoulders, and primitive hiking
trails maintained by Newcastle Trails. All routes pass historic
Newcastle Cemetery, go through Lake Boren Park and the Eastside Fuchsia
Society demonstration garden. All pass over part of the former
Seattle-Walla Walla Railroad route. Level 2 goes into May Creek Park.,
Level 3 has some steep hills and may have roots in the trail.
Walk Distance and Trail: 10 km (3); 10 km (2); 5 km (1+ )
Miscellaneous: Everyone may participate. Children under 12 years of age
must be accompanied by an adult. 5K is suitable for strollers and
wheelchairs, but there are gradual inclines. Water & restrooms are
available at the start/finish and Lake Boren Park.
Award: Credit only is $3. “B” awards available. Event & Distance books
plus book covers available. This is an “N” walk for the “A” to “Z”
