      7/12/2003 - Troll Stroll Walk

      Start : Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner,
      WA (about ten miles east of Sequim)
      TWO COUNTIES!! Jefferson and Clallam
      DIRECTIONS: Gardiner is on U. S. 101, about ten miles east of
      Sequim. From the east on Highway 101, turn half right just after
      Mile Post 276, onto Old Gardiner Road. Proceed less than 1/4 mile to
      the Gardiner Community Center on your left.
      From the west, turn left onto Old Gardiner Road, just after Diamond
      Point Road, at the Jefferson County sign. Go nearly a mile to the
      Gardiner Community Center on the right.
      Although you can see the Gardiner Community Center from U.S. 101,
      there is NO direct access from the highway.
      START TIME: 8:00am - 1:00 pm
      FINISH TIME: 4:00 pm
      TRAIL: (2+) Walk in a rural area, mostly on paved roads featuring
      the elaborately carved "Troll Haven" trolls and "Castle." Strollers
      okay, wheelchairs not recommended.
      AWARD: Credit plus a 2 1/2 inch multi-colored "Troll Stroll" patch
      is $6.00, These awards were available at the 2000 Troll Stroll and
      have not been available since then. They will not be available
      except at a troll walk and there will be no reorders. Credit only
      is $3.00. "B" awards and pins are available. Free walkers are
      welcome but must register, carry, and return a start card. Jefferson

      was a unfailingly enthusiastic about volkssports and about life
      itself. Life was a celebration for her so we continue on in that
      spirit in her name.

      One of Patsy's requests was donations to the Humane Society of Skagit
      Valley or Whidbey Animal's Improvement Foundation so donations of
      cat/dog food, toys, litter or cash will be accepted and delivered to
      both organizations.
      There will be a memory book available in which you can write your
      favorite memory of Patsy. If any of you have short Patsy anecdotes
      that you can send in advance, some will be displayed along the walk.

      WA. Northbound I-405: Exit #2 (SR 167 North/Rainier Avenue). Turn

      Airport Way. Turn left at 2nd light (Logan Ave). Turn left into
      Renton Stadium parking lot. Southbound I-405: Exit #2 (Auburn/Kent).

      Location: International Air Academy, 2901 E. Mill Plain Blvd. (at

      Guided Walk: This walk is under the guidelines of the Portland
      Marathon programs. Our goal is to make all walks as safe and pleasant
      as possible for all concerned. Groups stay together and obey
      pedestrian rules. Please contact us if you have questions. Group
      distances will be 12 miles (19K) and 16 miles (26K).
      You are welcome to join us to walk a shorter distance. For the
      greatest enjoyment, consider bringing a cell phone and arrange to
      call a friend for a pick up. You'll enjoy the walk the most when you
      can walk with your group for the greatest distance. Walk rating: 2,
      moderate.
      Comfort: Please, no pets due to the group nature of this training

      This is a Civil War Walk. (For more information about this special

      Route is along the waterfront and harbor, through two parks, past the
      General George Pickett House (open today especially for walkers with
      a special quilt display). You also walk on trails along Whatcom creek
      and through downtown Bellingham. See some of the Chalk Art as well
      as many eateries, galleries and small shops. Suitable for wheelchairs
      and strollers.
      Alabama Bridge Walk: 12 km Rated 2+. Canadian Rating 2B. This walk
      covers city streets, old logging railroad trails, the $1,800,000
      Alabama Pedestrian Bridge, Whatcom Falls Park Trails and overlooks
      the ruins of the gas pipeline fire of 1999 and the Yew Street steps.
      One long set of stairs to go down. Not suitable for wheelchairs or
      strollers.
      START TIME: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
      FINISH: 4:00 p.m.

      START/FINISH: Two Rivers Heritage Museum; 001 – 16th Street;
      Washougal, Washington.
      TIME: Start 9am-3pm; Finish by 6pm.
      DISTANCE and RATING: 11km (6.8 miles); 13km (optional); or 5km (3.1
      miles), Rated 1+.
      TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Walk on the raised dike path between the Columbia
      River and Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Visit the site
      where the Corps of Discovery set up a provision camp at Cottonwood
      Beach for 6 days in 1806. See expansive views of Mt. Hood, Reed
      Island and the western end of the Columbia River Gorge. Level route
      includes tightly packed earth and gravel. A rough go for strollers,
      wheelchairs not advised.
      HERITAGE DAY: The Two Rivers Heritage Museum is holding its 5th
      annual Heritage Day festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
      Enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social, community information
      tables, plant sale, food and craft booths, exhibits, and other family
      activities. Show your start card at the Pendleton Factory Outlet
      store and receive a 10% discount to walkers. Raffle tickets for a
      Pendleton blanket throw will also be for sale, with proceeds to
      benefit the museum.
      HATPIN: The official Clark County Lewis & Clark pin, a colorful 1½"
      oval, is $2.75. Other "B" awards and hatpins are also available.
      FEES: AVA Credit Only is $3. No refunds. Non-credit walkers are
      welcome to participate at no charge. Donations accepted. All must
      register, carry, and return a start card.
      COMFORT: Water and restrooms at start/finish. Turnaround checkpoint
      will have water. Route has little shade; participants are strongly
      advised to carry extra water. Pets permitted but NOT in building(s).
      Owners are responsible for leash and clean up laws.
      DIRECTIONS: From I-5 (Exit #1A) or I-205 (Exit #27), take SR-14 East
      to Washougal. Just past Mile Post 16, turn left at traffic light onto
      15th Street. Take first right on "A" Street, then right into
      Pendleton Woolen Mills parking lot. Two Rivers Heritage Museum is on
      the west side of the lot. Volkswalk signs will be posted.
