      CREDIT-ONLY FEE INCREASE
Beginning Jan. 1, 2003 the AVA fees charged to the clubs for credit
walkers have increased for all events. Clubs in most cases will be
raising their credit-only fees to $3 so they will be able to pay the
increased fee. Please be sure to bring an extra dollar with you to the
events. This fee increase was necessary to continue to offer volkssport
      sanctioned events in the USA.

      # [February 8, 2003]
      # Cancelled due to Marymoore Park being in the midst of remodeling to
put in new facilities. They can not give us a shelter and none of the
trails will be available to use. Also, they will be charging for parking
      and possibly charging for admission.

Feb. 15-16, 2003 Olympia Healthy Heart Walk and Bike
For your Presidents' Day weekend planning in the Olympia, WA area,
please note the annual Healthy Heart Walk and Bike, to be held 15 and 16
Feb. This year's event is being dedicated to the memory of Shelli
McClaflin, longtime avid member and supporter of the Capitol Volkssport
Club. She originated this walk in 1995 and was the trailmaster every
year. She worked the event last Feburary, even when cancer treatments
had depleted her energy. Please join us in this great tradition, which
      Shelli started.
In addition, gung-ho walkers would like to know that the Woodard Bay YRE
start point is the same as the checkpoint for the Heart Walk. It is
possible to add another 10 K or 12 K to your distance for the day and
collect another event! The Woodard Bay YRE is a continuation of the
route along the beautiful Chehalis Western Trail, a rails-to-trails path.
Start Location for the Heart Walk/Bike:
Providence St. Peter Hospital Fitness Center
413 Lilly Rd. NE, Olympia, WA
      Start Times Both Days: 8:00 - 1:00
      Finish by 4:00

listed above. IVV volkssport credit is $3.00. Free walkers and
bikers are welcome, but must register.

at the Providence St. Peter Fitness Center. The 5 K route goes on
sidewalks and trails on and near the hospital grounds. The 10 K is a
continuation of the 5 K and follows the paved rail bed of the Chehalis
Western Trail. Both suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
Bike Trail: The 25 K bike route, rated 2, also starts at the Fitness
Center and goes on paved city and rural road surfaces, as well as along
the rail bed of the Chehalis Western Trail.
Driving Directions: From I-5, exit # 109, Martin Way. Northbound
LEFT/Southbound RIGHT on Martin Way. Continue on Martin Way to Lilly
Rd. and turn RIGHT. Continue through stoplight (Ensign Rd.) Hospital

For more info contact Renee Hunter at (360) 280-4889 or
      reneehun@... or Lee Smith at (360) 438-2893 or lelandfs@...
The event will be held weather or not!
While you're in the area, you might also check out other year-round
opportunities. Not only is the Woodard Bay segment of the Chehalis
Western Trail available, but at the Panorama City start point another
walk includes a southern segment of the same trail. (You will need to
drive to this one from the hospital.) In addition, downtown Olympia
      offers a couple beautiful trails.
