      Group Walk of the walk below. Meet at 10 am on Sunday - August 9, 2009 at
      Start Point. McDonald's. MOUNT AVENTIVE WILL HAVE OPEN HOUSE IN THE
      AFTERNOON.

      BRING PICNIC LUNCH. Bring 3 bottles of water for the WALK. Maybe hot!
      Event Name: Indian Head-Chapman State Park
      Event Type: Year Round Walk
      Event ID: 82820 2009/Y0129
      Distance - Trail Ratings: Short trail 5-km and 10-km - 1+
      Description: BE SURE TO BRING YOUR OWN WATER! NO pets in Park. The walk
      consists of two 5-km trails. The primary is within Chapman State Park.
      Distance includes walking from your parked car. The trail is mostly on
      natural paths through one of the remaining coastal woodlands intact on the
      Potomac River shore. Chapman's Landing reaches back to a land patent from
      Charles Calvert in 1673. Nathanial Chapman was a close friend of George
      Mason across the river. Mount Aventine, is an 1840's house with a panoramic
      view of the Potomac River. Trail visits the Potomac River edge and Chapman
      family cemetery. Site includes over 3 dozen rare state species of plants and
      many birds including Bald Eagles. Indian Head (Chapman State Park) is
      watched over by Piscataway Indians Tayac territory. The second 5-km trail is
      down Indian Head Highway as described in the trail directions. This loop
      includes the Potomac-Chesapeake branch railroad, Veterans Memorial, historic
      church and a wonderful vista of Mattawoman Creek the other side of
      Cornwallis Neck from Chapman State Park. Fee for IVV credit or non-IVV
      credit is $3.00. Children 12 and under walk for free (IVV credit included)

      Location: Indian Head, Chapman State Park
      Start Point / Driving Directions: McDonald's at 3050 Marshall Hall Road,
      Bryans Road, Maryland 20616 ---Directions to McDonald's: Take the Washington
      Capital Beltway to Indian Head Highway (MD 210) south toward Indian Head
      (from VA Exit 2; from MD Exit 3A). At mile 14 on MD 210 the McDonald's is on
      the RIGHT just before traffic light at MD 227. (this crossroads is the
      center of the community known as Bryans Road). PLEASE be considerate of the
      employees and customers. Employees are not familiar with volksmarching and
      will not be able to answer questions about the walk. After registering, you
      will need to drive about 1.1 miles past the light, veer to the right onto
      Chapman's Landing Road. Follow for 1.6 miles to the gated entrance of Mount
      Aventine and Chapman State Park. If it is an Open House date, you will be
      greeted at the gate and get further directions.

        The plan for this group walk is to MEET READY TO DEPART MCDONALD's at 10
        AM.

        We will drive to Indian Head to do first 5k option, then move up to Chapman
        State Park to do the remainder of our activities there--walk, picnic
        lunch-Friends of Chapman State Park will have beverages for sale--there will
        be an Open House for Mt. Aventine and special programs. Depart when
        satisfied.
