      AVA Treasurer's Walk

      Distance and Trail Rating: 11 km; Rated 1+; 6km; Rated 1+
      Start place address: 9608 Ridge Avenue, Fairfax, Virginia
      Start times: Between 9:00 a.m. and 12 Noon. Finish by 3:00 p.m.
      Event description: The trail is on sidewalks and on prepared paths along
      Accotink Creek. There are a few moderate hills. The trail is suitable
      for handicapped participants or for strollers.
      Award and fees: The award for this event is a 1" x 4" commemorative "AVA
      Treasurer's Walk 2001" patch. Fifty awards will be available, and will
      be reordered if necessary. Some awards from previous events will be
      available for sale, including "AVA Treasurer's Walk 2000" patches and
      Wedding volksmarch 1999 champagne glasses. The "Executive Council XI"
      header patch will also be available for $3.00. The credit fee is $2.00.
      There is no fee to walk the trail
      Treasurer's patch and credit $4.00.
      Directions: From North, South or East: Take I-495, Capitol Beltway, to
      Virginia Exit 50A, US 50 West, Arlington Boulevard (name changes to Lee
      Highway at Fairfax Circle). Travel about 3 miles to the traffic light at
      Rebel Run (Denny's restaurant on the right). Turn left on Rebel Run.
      Drive up the hill and park along Rebel Run in front of Fairfax high
      School. Walk to registration area using instructions below.
      Directions from the West: Take I-66 to Exit 60, Chain Bridge Road, VA Rt
      123 South. Travel to the second traffic light and turn left on US 50
      East, Lee Highway. Travel about 1 mile to the traffic light at Rebel Run
      (Denny's restaurant on the left). Turn right on Rebel run. Drive up the
      hill and park along Rebel run in front of Fairfax high School. Walk to
      the registration area using the instructions below.
      Walking Instructions from Rebel Run to Registration Area: Walk uphill to
      the intersection of Rebel Run and Old Lee Highway. (The Army-Navy Golf
      Course will be across Old Lee Highway.) Turn left at Old Lee Highway and
      walk down the hill 0.8 km to Ridge Avenue. (This is included in the
      trail distance.) Turn left at Ridge Avenue and go to the 5th townhouse
      to register.

      January 27-28, 2001 -- Quadriennial Inaugural Walk
      Washington, DC
      Start Point: U S Post Office, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC
      Start Time: 8:30 am to 1 pm. Finish by 4pm.
      Award: The elephant will have Bush-Cheney on a t-shirt. In 1989 we had a
      jubiliant elephant for President Bush and Vice President Quayle; in 1993
      we had a patriotic patch with the names of President Clinton and Vice
      President Gore, and for 1997 we had Charging Charlie walking with the
      Democrat donkey for Clinton-Gore again.
      Directions:Location Map
      From the Beltway, take Exit 170B - I395 North. Cross the Potomac on the
      14th Street Bridge. Just after crossing the river, exit I-395 to the
      left, following signs for US-1 (Downtown). Drive north on 14th Street
      through 6 traffic lights. Turn right at the 7th light (Pennsylvania
      Avenue) and head east to 12th Street. The Old Post Office is on the far
      right corner of the intersection of 12th and Penn. There may be legal
      parking spaces on the street. If there are none, turn left on 12th
      Street and proceed for 1-1/2 blocks. There is a commercial parking lot
      on the left.
      Metrorail access: Take the Orange or Blue line to Federal Triangle. As
      you exit the station, turn left and curve gradually back around,
      following the sidewalk beside the building until you reach the traffic
      signal at 12th Street. Carefully cross the street with the "Walk" signal
      and bear left to enter the Old Post Office through its rear entrance.
      Take the Yellow or Green Line to Archives-Navy Memorial. As you leave
      the station, continue straight, walking west along Pennsylvania Avenue
      to 11th Street. Cross Pennsylvania. The Old Post Office is on
      Pennsylvania between 11th and 12th.

      McLean Community Center

      Start place address: 1234 Ingleside Avenue, McLean, Virginia. Tel: (703)
      Start times: Between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Finish by 4:00 p.m.
      Event description: The trail is on sidewalks and side streets through
      residential areas of McLean, as well as park and recreation areas.
      Award and fees: Awards from previous Virginia events will be available.
      The fee for IVV credit and an award is $3.00 to $4.00. The fee for IVV
      credit only is $2.00.
      Directions: From the Capital Beltway (I-495) to Exit 11A (Rt 123 North,
      Chain Bridge Road, McLean) in Virginia. Follow Rt 123 to McLean. After
      crossing Old Dominion Drive (5th traffic light - Charley's Restaurant on
      right), take the first LEFT, Ingleside Avenue. The Community Center is
      on the left in the second block. Parking is available in the Community
      Center parking lot or in the small Community Park parking lot at the end
      of Oak Ridge Avenue between the Library and the Community Center.
