      Distance and Trail Rating: The trail is 10 km with a 5 km shorter
      option. AVA rating is 1+
      Start place address: The lobby of Rio Center (also Loew's Theater) at
      9811 Washingtonian Blvd., Gaithersburg, MD. Parking: Free parking is
      available in lots adjacent to Rio Center and in Parking Garage next
      to Center
      Start times: Registration 9 A.M. - Noon. Finish by 3 P.M.
      Event description: The walk is intended to show off some of the newer
      developed areas in Montgomery County, west of I-270 at Exit 9. The
      path will go by entertainment areas (e.g. the Rio Center), shops,
      hotels, residences, and medical and office buildings.. The walk will
      be on sidewalks, passing built-up areas and open fields. It is
      suitable for strollers but not wheelchairs.
      Award and fees: Our walk is free. If you wish to receive IVV credit
      for the walk, you must pay $3. There is no specific award for the
      event. A variety of "B" Awards will be available.
      Directions: It is easiest to reach the start point from I-270. From I-
      270, going south or north, turn off onto Sam Eig Highway at Exit 9,
      which is very clearly marked. On Sam Eig (which goes west from I-
      270), go about 1 mile to first traffic light at Fields Road. Turn
      left onto Fields Road and go 0.3 miles to first traffic light. Turn
      left onto Rio Blvd. Go short distance to traffic circle and turn
      Right onto Washingtonian Blvd (East). Almost immediately you will see
      the Rio Center (and Loew's Theater) on your left. Park in lot on near
      side of Rio or in garage on far side of Rio

      Event Description: The walk is on the Capitol Crescent Trail and
      city streets and is suitable for strollers but not for wheelchairs.
      The plan is to have the cherry blossoms in Kenwood in full bloom. One
      5K option, which goes through the cherry blossoms, requires driving
      to a different Start Point.

      Start Point is at The Shops at Sumner Place (Lower Parking Lot).
      Take the Washington Beltway (I-495) to exit 39, River Road (MD 190)
      towards Washington. Turn RIGHT on Goldsboro (MD 614). Turn LEFT on
      Massachusetts Ave. (MD 396). Turn RIGHT on Sangamore Road at the
      firehouse. Continue past The Shops at Sumner Place (4701 Sangamore
      Road) to STOP sign in front of the National Imagery and Mapping
      Agency. Turn LEFT for 1 block and then turn LEFT again into The Shops
      at Sumner Place. Turn immediately LEFT into the lower parking lot.
      Start Point is at the entrance to the Sumner Place Offices.
      Restrooms are available at the START/FINISH and along the
      trail. Pets must be leashed at all times and are not allowed in The
      Sumner Place Offices, but may be leashed outside. Only candy will be
      provided. Bring water. Refreshments may be purchased at the Shops at
      Sumner Place and along the trail. Record Books will be on sale and
      Insert Cards will be available.

      leisure sports in the interest of family health, recreation, fun and
      DISTANCE: There will be one 10-Km walking trail. The trail rating is
      1+. There will be a 5-Km trail rated 1+ for those who do not desire
      to do 10 Km.
      TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Asphalt paths, sidewalks, and roadways in the
      Red Branch Industrial Center, Columbia Hills, and East Columbia.
      START/FINISH: Soccer Association of Columbia Office in the Oakland
      Center, 8980-D State Route 108 (Old Annapolis Road), Columbia, MD
      STARTING DATES & TIMES: Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 2003. Start
      anytime from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must complete the walk by 4 p.m.
      Note: Daylight Savings Time begins April 6, so plan your start
      ELIGIBILITY: All are welcome to participate without charge, but must
      register at the start. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an
      adult throughout the entire trail.
      REGISTRATION: There is no pre-registration for this event. The
      participation fees are:
      · B Award and IVV Credit: $5.00
      · IVV Credit only: $3.00
      There is no fee to walk the trail without receiving the IVV Credit.
      CONDITIONS: The event will be held during all reasonable weather
      conditions, including rain. Littering along the trails is prohibited.
      Dogs are permitted on the trail but not inside buildings. County laws
      require that all pets must be leashed.
      PROCEDURE: Each participant will be issued a start card. It must be
      carried on the walk and presented for validation at each checkpoint.
      Only one start card will be validated per participant. Start cards
      must be turned in at the Finish Table after completing the event.
      Only those participants with a properly validated start card will be
      eligible for the Event Award and/or IVV Credit. The trail may be
      walked two times per start card on the same day at no additional cost.
      AWARD: B Awards (awards from previous events) only.
      REFRESHMENTS: Water and candy will be available at the checkpoint
      located along the trail. There are several restaurants/fast food
      establishments in the area. Rest rooms will be available at the
      Start/Finish point.
      DISCLAIMER: Neither the Columbia Volksmarch Club nor the Soccer
      Association of Columbia shall be liable for accidents, theft, or
      material damage. Every reasonable effort will be made to make this a
      safe, enjoyable, and memorable event.

      Washington. On Route 29, IMMEDIATELY move to the far right lane.

      From Route 29: Exit onto Route 108 East (Exit 21A). Pass two traffic
      lights (approximately one mile). Turn left at third drive (Oakland
      Center). Go under "No Trucks" overhead. Bear left through parking
      lots to SAC office in rear on left.
