      Description: This evening walk will consist of 10-KM (6.2-mile) trail
      with a shorter 5-KM (3.1-mile) option along residential sidewalks and
      bluestone/gravel trails through parks, residential/commercial areas and
      historic Old Town Fairfax, highlighting the Bakeries Family Owned
      special program. Trails should be suitable for strollers, although
      wheelchairs may encounter some difficulty. (Check with the information
      contact or consult the NVV Web site if you need specific information
      about this month's trail.) Written instructions and maps will be
      provided for each walk. Trails will not be marked.

      From the south: drive north on route 123. Turn right onto North Street
      (next signal after Main Street). *At the second signal, turn left onto Old
      Lee Highway (no sign). Go through 2 traffic signals. After the school
      crossing sign, turn right into the 3rd driveway to the parking lot.
      From the north: drive south on route 123. After crossing route 50, turn
      left at the next traffic signal (North Street). Follow from * above.
      From the west: take your favorite route (66,50, or 29) east to route 123
      going south. At the next signal after route 50, turn left onto North Street.
      Follow from * above.
      From the east: drive west on route 50 to Fairfax Circle. Exit to the right
      to follow the circle 2/3s around in a counter-clockwise direction to turn
      right on Old Lee Highway. (Its as though you were turning left onto Old
      Lee Highway from route 50). Drive about 1.5 miles and turn left into the
      parking lot.

      Description: TRAIL RATING AND DESCRIPTION: This is one of a set of
      evening walks offered during the spring and summer by the WDCAVC. These
      evening walks will consist of 10 KM (6.2 miles) trails with shorter 5 KM
      (3.1 miles) or 6 KM (3.8 miles) options along residential sidewalks and
      park trails in Old Town Alexandria. Trails will explore various
      neighborhoods, wander beside the Potomac River, and meander up hills
      that overlook Old Town. Trails are rated 1A, with only moderate hills.
      Trails are mostly on pavement, although short segments may be on natural
      surfaces. Trails should be suitable for strollers, although wheelchairs
      may encounter some difficulty. For more detailed information about each
      month's trail, please check with the information contact. Written
      instructions and maps will be provided for each walk. Trails will not be
      marked.

      From the East or West via I 95/I 495 (Capital Beltway): Take Exit 177B
      (US-1 North/Alexandria). Continue north on US-1 for about 10 blocks (0.8
      miles) to Queen St. (2 blocks past King St.). Turn RIGHT on Queen St.
      for 2 1/2 blocks. The library will be on your left.
      From the North via the George Washington Memorial Parkway: Take the GW
      Parkway into Old Town Alexandria. Continue on what now is called
      Washington St. for about 8 blocks from the first traffic signal at
      Slater's Lane to Princess St. Turn RIGHT on Princess St. You will be one
      block north of the library, which is on the far side of a large parking
      lot to your left.
      Parking: Look for parking spaces in legal spots along the streets,
      especially to the north and west of the S/F Point. Obey all parking
      signs, and provide proper payment for meters on Saturday. Do NOT park in
      private lots unless you have paid the proper fee and/or had explicit
      permission to park from the lot owner.
      Metrorail Access: Take either Blue or Yellow lines south into Alexandria
      to the King St. station. Exit the station and walk away from the tracks
      toward Old Town Alexandria. Walk east on King St. for about 12 blocks to
      Columbus St., which is two blocks past Patrick St. and one block before
      Washington St. Turn LEFT to walk two blocks to Queen St. The library is
      on the far right corner.
      You may also ride the free King Street trolley, which operates seven
      days a week from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM between the King St. Metro station
      and the riverfront. Buses operate on roughly 15-minute intervals and
      stop only at designated stops.
      Awards & Fees: IVV Credit Only
      Comments: ELIGIBILITY: Everyone is welcome to participate. An adult must
      accompany children under 12. Groups are welcome.
      AWARD: There is no commemorative award for these events.
      FEES: These events count towards the acquisition of IVV Achievement
      Awards. The fee for IVV Credit is $3.00. There is no fee to just walk
      the trail, but you must register and carry a start card. No refunds will
      be given.
      PROCEDURE: Each participant is issued a start card, which must be
      carried on the walk. Only one start card per person is issued, and it
      must be turned in at the Finish table after completing the event. Only
      those participants with a properly validated start card will be eligible
      for IVV Credit. Each trail may be completed twice per start card on the
      same day at no additional cost, provided you complete the trail within
      the stated start/finish time.
      CONDITIONS: Water is available at the Start/Finish Point, and food and
      drink usually is available along the trail, but you should carry your
      own water on the walk in case of extreme weather or personal cases of
      dehydration. Littering along the trails is prohibited. The events will
      be held rain or shine. Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed at all
      times and cleaned up after by their owner. Dogs are not allowed inside
      the library.
      REMINDER: The American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the
      International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV), sanctions these
      events. If you are a participant in the IVV Achievement Program,
      remember your record books. IVV event and distance books, as well as New
      Walker Packets, are available for sale for $5.00.
      DISCLAIMER: Every reasonable effort will be exercised to make these
      events safe, enjoyable and memorable for our participants. The American
      Volkssport Association, its subsidiary clubs, and the Kate Waller
      Barrett Branch Library are not responsible for theft or loss of personal

      onto VA Route 143 East. At the junction with Route 5, continue straight
      on Route 5. Approximately 2.1 miles, turn left on US Route 60 East (York
      Street). Sammy's Pancake House is on your right approximately 1.1 mile
      after your turn. From Hampton and Norfolk, take I-64 to Exit 242A,
      Williamsburg, VA Rt 199 West (Humelsine Parkway). Drive about 1.1 miles
      to the Exit for US 60. Turn right onto the exit. At the bottom of the
      ramp, turn left onto US 60 West. Sammy's Pancake House is on your left
      approximately 0.8 miles.
      Awards & Fees: A Award
      Comments: The A-award will be part of the Civil War battlefield series
      that the club is sponsoring during 2013. There is a header patch
      available for this series. This walk will count for the Virginia County
      program, as well as the AVA Civil War Battlefields special program. We
      will have our meeting and lunch at Sammy's Pancake House after the walk.
      Restrooms will be available at the start point only and pets will not be
      allowed in the start point.
