      Description: This walk follows the Heritage Walk trail and the Mount
      Vernon Cultural Walk trail developed by Baltimore city. Disks embedded
      in the sidewalks take you on a journey into Baltimore's past. Along the
      way there are story signs that reveal insights about the neighborhoods.
      Participants will walk through four centuries of history around the
      Inner Harbor, Little Italy and historic Jonestown showcasing more than
      20 of the city's most notable landmarks and historic sites. Feel the
      pulse of Baltimore's cultural heart on the Mount Vernon Cultural section
      of the walk. Walk on Charles Street, once considered the "Fifth Avenue
      of the South." Walk through beautiful Mount Vernon Place, see the
      world's first public monument to George Washington. Return through the
      historic Otterbein Community. This walk is annotated so significant
      sites and museums are identified on the walk.

      21230. From I-95 south of the city: Exit at Key Highway and follow it as
      it curves to the left at the light. Royal Farms will be on your left.
      Proceed on Key Highway. You will see Digital Harbor High School (large
      tan building) on you left. At the light at Cross Street make a left turn
      and an immediate left at Covington. The parking lot is to your right
      just past the school. From I-695 north of the city: Take I-83 south to
      downtown Baltimore. Exit at St Paul St South. Proceed on St Paul to the
      inner harbor area where St Paul becomes Light St. Continue on Light as
      it curves to the left onto Key Highway. Maryland Science Center is on
      your left. Continue on Key Highway. You will see Digital Harbor High
      School (large tan building) on your right. At Cross Street turn right
      and then an immediate left at Covington. The parking lot is on the right
      just past the school.

      Description: The walk on the towpath from Lock 22 to Lock 23 first
      passes the Wildlife Management Area then goes along the picturesque
      section beside the Potomac River with the Blockhouse Point cliffs on the
      berm. At Violettes Lock you can see the remains of a dam built across
      the river to provide water for the first intake lock built for the
      canal. The walk in Blockhouse Point Park is through a mature upland
      forest; it passes the Callithea Horse Farm to an overlook with good
      views of the Potomac and glimpses of the towpath and canal. Close by the
      overlook is where the blockhouse was built during the Civil War for
      surveillance of the river and canal.

        Description: TRAIL RATING AND DESCRIPTION: These evening walks will
        consist of 10 KM (6.2 miles) trails with shorter 5 KM (3.1 miles) or 6
        KM (3.8 miles) options along residential sidewalks and park trails in
        Old Town Alexandria. Trails will explore various neighborhoods, wander
        beside the Potomac River, and meander up hills that overlook Old Town.
        Trails are rated 1 and 1+, with moderate hills. Trails are mostly on
        pavement, although short segments may be on natural surfaces. Trails
        should be suitable for strollers, although wheelchairs may encounter
        some difficulty. For more detailed information about each month's trail,
        please check with the information contact. Written instructions and maps
        will be provided for each walk. Trails will not be marked.

        DIRECTIONS:
        From the East or West via I 95/I 495 (Capital Beltway):
        • Take Exit 177B (US-1 North/Alexandria), the first exit west of the
        Wilson Bridge.
        • Continue north on US 1 for about 10 blocks (0.8 miles) to Queen St. (2
        blocks past King St.).
        • Turn RIGHT on Queen St. for 2 1/2 blocks. The Library will be on your
        left.
        From the North via the George Washington Memorial Parkway:
        • Take the GW Parkway into Old Town Alexandria.
        • Continue on what now is called Washington St. for about 8 blocks from
        the first traffic signal at Slater's Lane to Princess St.
        • Turn RIGHT on Princess St. You will be one block north of the library,
        which is on the far side of a large parking lot to your left.
        PARKING:
        Street Parking: You can usually find parking along the streets,
        especially on blocks north and east of the library. Check signs
        carefully to determine how long you can legally park and whether you
        might be in a zone that must be cleared during rush hour.
        Lot Parking: Please note that we have been unable to make arrangements
        to use the parking lot behind the library and the Wachovia Bank on the
        same block. You therefore should not park in that lot. If you choose to
        park in any other lot, you may be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

        FEES: The fee for IVV Credit is $3.00. There is no fee to just walk the
