      Description: The 10 km trail has both paved and natural surface
      sections. The natural surface section starts at the nature center Trail
      Head and follows the nature trails along an abandoned section of Avery
      Road, into the forest and along the Croydon Creek. There are some short
      steep climbs along the creek. The walk then continues to the Glenwood
      Mansion grounds. The 7 km trail bypasses the natural surface section and
      continues directly to the Glenwood Mansion grounds. The mansion grounds
      include several short sets of steps in the garden. The 5 km trail
      bypasses both the nature center and Glenwood Mansion. All trails return
      through the Twinbrook neighborhood and finish along the Rock Creek Park
      trail before returning to Caribou Coffee. All trails start and finish
      with a short set of steps with poles that narrow the passageway. The
      passageway is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers unless they are
      lifted over the poles and down the steps. Restrooms are available at the
      Start Point and at Croydon Creek Nature Center. Pets are allowed, but
      must be leashed at all times during the walk. This walk will be held
      regardless of the weather, unless conditions cause the sponsors to close
      the trails for safety reasons. Water and candy will be available at the
      Start Point.

      Description: Bill Larson Memorial Event: Bill Larson was a beloved,
      longtime Sugarloafer member. For many years this was Bill’s Moonlight
      walk; he worked hard to make it happen. He also was one of the first to
      serve as a volunteer ranger at Seneca Creek State Park. And in 1999 Bill
      organized a Friends Group for Seneca to generate funds through
      memberships, donations & grants to support this park. His diligent work
      did much to guarantee continued quality programs and maintenance for
      Seneca Creek State Park. Unexpectedly Bill died in July, 2008, and we
      surely do miss him. Theme: A chance to experience our beautiful state
      park in the moonlight for a different view of the world around us. This
      is a once-a-year opportunity. Many thanks for the park manager's
      cooperation in allowing us to have this special walk.

      Description: All are welcome to participate, but must register at the
      start, carry a start card on the walk and turn it in upon completing the
      walk. An adult must accompany children under 12 during the entire walk.
      All Volkssport participants must sign a disclaimer. A parent or guardian
      must sign a special athletic waiver for children 17 years old and under
      before they may participate in a Volkssport event. Children under 12
      always walk free at Baltimore Walking Club events. The event will be
      held in all reasonable weather conditions. If in doubt, contact the

      Start Point / Driving Directions: Darlington, MD 21034 Take Exit 77B
      from I-95 and follow MD 24 north. It transitions into US 1 about 7 miles
      from I-95. At just over 21 miles from I-95, turn right off US 1 onto
      Shuresville Road. After mile, turn left onto Shures Landing. Follow this
      road to its end and park at the north end of the parking lot (about 1
      mile). The start/finish is in the fishing pavilion at the dam.

      Comments: Conowingo Dam was built back in 1926 1928, about 4 miles
      upstream from Chesapeake Bay. The dam is 4648 feet long and 105 feet
      high. Its probably the highest structure in Harford County. The walk is
      along the old Philadelphia Electric Rail Trail along the Susquehanna
      River. This railroad operated in the 1920s from Havre de Grace to the
      Conowingo Dam site. The walk is out and back.

      holiday season as well as the annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade and
      other festivities in the city of Alexandria. One IVV event stamp is
      offered. The Alexandria holiday trail (available for two distances) will
      explore historic neighborhoods and commercial districts of Old Town as
      well as sites along the Potomac waterfront. The trail will take you near
      the Scottish Christmas parade route. The 10-KM (6.2-mile) trail will
      focus slightly more on the southern end of Old Town, while the 5-KM
      (3.1-mile) trail will explore more of northern Old Town. Both trails are
      rated 1A because they are generally flat with very limited hills. Both
      are generally suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and disability
      scooters. Both trails offer restrooms, water, food, and shopping. (The
      suitability of the trails for wheeled vehicles or even for walking may
      be inhibited if weather conditions become adverse.)

      for 2 1/2 blocks. The library will be on your left.
      From the North via the George Washington Memorial Parkway: Take the GW
      Parkway into Old Town Alexandria. Continue on what now is called
      Washington St. for about 8 blocks from the first traffic signal at
      Slater's Lane to Princess St. Turn RIGHT on Princess St. You will be one
      block north of the library, which is on the far side of a large parking
      lot to your left.
      Parking: Look for parking spaces in legal spots along the streets,
      especially to the north and west of the S/F Point. Obey all parking
      signs, and provide proper payment for meters on Saturday. Do NOT park in
      private lots unless you have paid the proper fee and/or had explicit
      permission to park from the lot owner.
      Metrorail Access: Take either Blue or Yellow lines south into Alexandria
      to the King St. station. Exit the station and walk away from the tracks
      toward Old Town Alexandria. Walk east on King St. for about 12 blocks to
      Columbus St., which is two blocks past Patrick St. and one block before
      Washington St. Turn LEFT to walk two blocks to Queen St. The library is
      on the far right corner.
      You may also ride the free King Street trolley, which operates seven
      days a week from 11:30 AM to 10:15 PM between the King St. Metro station
      and the riverfront. Buses operate on roughly 15-minute intervals and
      stop only at designated stops.

      Comments: AWARD: The award for this event is a colorful patch featuring
      three elves preparing for the holiday season. Those receiving an award
      will also receive IVV credit after they complete the walk and return

      EVENT AWARDS: The day event award is a wooden block cutout of the

      participant paying an appropriate fee will receive an award and/or IVV
      credit in exchangefor a completed start card. Only 50 day awards will be
      ordered. Only 35 night awards will be ordered. There will not be a
      reorder of either award. Most awards go during the pre-registration period.
      COURSE DESCRIPTION:
      The day (10 km) walk trail, rated as 1A, will be through Colonial
      Williamsburg and primarily along city streets. The night (10 km) and
      both 5 km trails are rated as 1A and are primarily in Colonial
      Williamsburg. All trails are suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and
      handicapped. Colonial Williamsburg is decorated for Christmas so walkers
      can enjoy both the decorations on the doors during the day and the
      lights and carolers at night.
      SWIM: The swim is 300-meters and will take place in the hotel swimming
      pool. There is no pre-registration for the swim.
      SPECIAL HOTEL RATES: The Clarion is offering special room rates: $69.00
      per night for a single/double/triple/quad room, including breakfast.
      When making a reservation at the reduced rate (by Nov. 13, 2013), call
      757-229-4100 and tell them you are part of the Peninsula Pathfinders'
      group. After that date, there is no guarantee that you will be able to
      get the special rate. It will depend on the level of occupancy of the
      hotel. There is a full service restaurant at the hotel, which serves
      breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
