FL, Venice YRE
- Good news for those coming to southwest Florida this winter.
You may already know that we had a hard time getting this Venice YRE off the
ground in January. In the April Issue of TAW the directions to the new start
place were published under YRE Seasonal Update. Those directions are correct
(TAW, Oct/Nov, Section B11, Column 4) except for the last line "Register here
and drive to the start place."
Good news. In case you have been there in 2002 and found things not to be
great as far as finding the start place to "drive to", we have made a change
and now you may start walking right from where you register. In order to do
this, of course we had to change the route slightly. Most of the old route is
still being used, but the beginning and end was changed. We hope you like it
and will come to Venice, Florida often and enjoy the beach known as "Sharks
tooth capital of the world."
Other enjoyable YRE in southwest Florida are Highlands Hammock State Park
(center of the peninsula at Sebring), then moving south there is Punta Gorda,
Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, and Sanibel walk & bike. (Bike rental is a
block from the start place).
To finish out your southwest Florida vacation, you might want to meander on
down to Naples. Two great walks, each starting at wonderful Ice Cream spots.
How can you lose. Seriously, though, in 2003, Fort Myers Meandering Manatees
will be sponsoring the Naples YREs, giving you eight walks and a bike is
