Dunkin' Like David - Sunday, March 1st 2009
On Sunday March 1st, 2009 at 1pm we will follow the ways of the Celtic Saints and stand in the waters waist to chest deep to pray for the poor of the world. We are doing this in Boston, MA! Yep, that's right in 38F water, and probably even colder weather in the air! We are looking to make local and maybe even national news for Wales on Saint David's Day, and we will be raising some money for charity as well.
There are other mad people from around the world who will join the Saint David’s Day Dunk by plunging into the cold waters, and saying a prayer like the Celtic Saints of old in their own locality. Would you like to be one of those people? Here’s what you will need to make this happen in your locality:
1. a beach, river, or lake to plunge into
2. local organizers to gather like-minded crazy people
3. someone to pray (preferably in Welsh with translations as needed)
4. Promotional flyers for the event
5. sponsor sheets to raise money for a non-profit organization to benefit the poor on this Saint David’s Day (if you choose to take this step.)
6. Contact the Boston, Massachusetts, USA Saint David’s Day organizers to get on the list of official Saint David’s Day Dunk Teams.
7. Digital and Video cameras to record the event. We will be creating a video-log of the event, and you can become part of the madness.
8. the foresight to turn it into a celebration after the event, as well as during!
Information we need about you: e-mail us your name(s) and contact information (e-mail, phone, address), and location of planned event. We will need the name of the person organizing the Saint David’s Day Dunk in your locality. Please request promotional information.
, or call 978-744-8444,
or write to Dunkin' Like David c/o The Gathering, 217 Essex Street, Salem, MA 01970http://stdavidsday.blogspot.com

Wanted to wish the best for the new year and thank you for all of your efforts. I am a transplanted Welshman living in Cancun, Mexico. Recently, just by chance, I have met two families from Wales who were here on vacation. In both cases they had a great vacation, but were a little disappointed with the hotel selection. One did not go all inclusive because they imagined eating Mexican food everyday. It turned out to be a very expensive trip after eating in restaurants for two weeks. I would like to extend an invitation to anyone thinking of coming to the Riviera Maya to contact me. I would be happy to advise them on the types of hotels/food etc. They can contact me at webbls@...
Everyone: Thanks for all you do for Welsh culture in the USA. We are happy to help you in this endeavor. Happy 2009.

His work The Armed Man: a Work for Peace was recently voted 8th most popular classical piece ever by listeners to Britain’s radio station Classical FM, putting him next to Elgar and only a few places below Mozart and Rachmaninov.
He returns to New York on Martin Luther King Day - Jan 19, 2009 – when a concert of his work will be performed at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, including a world premiere performance of Sarikiz and a US premiere of Stabat Mater and Te Deum.

Department of Welsh at University of Wales Lampeter
I have contacted you previously when the Department of Welsh at University of Wales Lampeter was the first to offer an accredited Welsh course online in 1999. It is possible to study for a full BA Honours Degree in Welsh, or Welsh Studies online. You don’t have to come to Lampeter. The Department of Welsh has, for several years, asked the University’s Financial Department to reduce the Overseas Fees to undergraduate students who wish to learn, or improve their Welsh. Previously, the fee for studying Welsh online for Overseas Students was 740 pounds sterling for every 20 credits. However, the fantastic news is that the Finance Department has agreed to trial a fairer price after long negotiations. The new fee is 262 pounds sterling for every 20 credit module. You need to successfully pass 120 credits at Level 1 to achieve a Certificate of Higher Education, 240 credits for a Diploma of Higher Education and 360 credits for a BA Honours Degree.
I hope that this new information is of benefit to any Welsh person who hopes to gain formal accreditation in the language, history and literature of Wales.
Should you require any further information, you’re welcome to contact me.
