      Sydney
Hallo from the land 'down under'..
Thank you for information regarding the Sydney Welsh Choir's visit to the Central West. I chose to drive to Mudgee in NSW  to listen to them perform at St John's Anglican church and enjoyed a very special day. They were superb....even non Welsh were crying with emotion.
I met a dear lady Barbara Allen...she is 95 and speaks Welsh at every chance. She had a memorable day with her sister with whom she travelled to Wales earlier this year and visited my father's h ome town of Swansea, Mumbles and my old school of Oystermouth which I attended for a very short while in 1949.
      Kind wishes

The First 1500 Years of Welsh Poetry
Including Fern Hill, a tribute to Dylan Thomas
The idea behind this presentation is to allow those unfamiliar with the Welsh language and/or Welsh poetry, both in Welsh and English, a convenient access to an often neglected, extremely rewarding, sometimes daunting, obscure and yet magical world of verse.  One that has been flowing (and still flows!)
from the western side of Offa’s Dyke and, in fact, from Welsh hearts and souls every and anywhere in the world

Welsh American Project at Harvard University?
The Department of Celtic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University is compiling a database of Welsh activity in the New England region (all six states, with some necesary spillover into neighbouring regions).
A website at www.walesnewengland.blogspot.com gives an introduction to the project, and also a questionnaire which you are encouraged to fill in if you might be able to provide the project with information either about current Welsh links to New England (cultural, business or other) or about historical links (part of the project is also to trace the past connections, through trade, immigration, politics, investment, etc.).
The project (in co-operation with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Welsh Assembly Government) wants to make contact with as many people as possible who provide any kind of link between Wales and New England, be it family history, personal interest or professional. The goal is to identify areas of future activity to boost the Welsh contribution to the area.
Please spread the word to others who have links with Wales, visit the website and complete the survey (which is available in Welsh and English).
Many thanks - diolch o galon ichi,

Welsh recipe of the week !!!

Mini Mincemeat and Almond Crumble Pies Pastry
100  g butter, chilled and cut into cubes
175  g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
      1  tablespoon light brown sugar
1  orange, zest of, finely grated
      Filling
      250  g good quality mincemeat, preferably home-made
      Crumble Topping
      50  g cold butter
      50  g plain flour
      2  tablespoons light brown sugar
      2  tablespoons almonds, finely chopped
       icing sugar, for dusting
Make the pastry in a large bowl or food processor by blending the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar and orange zest and then 2 tbsp water.
Bring the mixture together with your hands, adding a few more drops of water if it feels a little dry.
Preheat the oven to 180C/375F/gas 4.
Roll out half the pastry (keep the other half wrapped in the fridge) on a lightly floured surface. You want the pastry to be very thin, so it is crisp when cooked.
Cut out 12 circles of pastry with a plain 6cm cutter (you will need to re-roll the pastry a couple of times) and use to line a 12-hole, non-stick cup cake or mini muffin tin.
(It is quite a soft pastry, so any little gaps that form as you are lining the holes can easily be patched up.)
Chill while you make the topping.
In a small bowl, make the crumble topping by rubbing the butter into the flour until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and almonds.
With a teaspoon, fill each pastry case with mincemeat, gently pressing it down to leave room for the topping.
Sprinkle the topping over each pie, place the tin on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes or until the topping is golden.
Leave the pies to cool in the tin before taking them out carefully. They are fragile when hot, so use a small knife to help lift them out.
Unless you have two tins, repeat the process with the second batch of pastry, filling and topping.
Eat the mini mince pies warm or cold, lightly dusted with icing sugar and served with whipped cream or brandy butter.

        Hi Carwyn,

I do not know how I got on your mailing list, but I want to say thank you that I was included.  Talk about a wonderful endeavor!  I got excited just reading it.

We need to have a world "Welsh Day!"

I saw saw many areas that had welsh language classes offered in your newsletter. Some from free to over a few hundred dollars.  I wish there was either an online class I could afford or somewhere close to where I live in northern Ohio, but unfortunately, I don't think there is.

I am in the genealogical world searching for my great grandmother's ancestors..and your "News" can sure get a person excited as it did me.

        Thank you again.

Thank you for information regarding the Sydney Welsh Choir's visit to the Central West. I chose to drive to Mudgee in NSW  to listen to them perform at St John's Anglican church and enjoyed a very special day. They were superb....even non Welsh were crying with emotion.

Welsh American Project at Harvard University?
The Department of Celtic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University is compiling a database of Welsh activity in the New England region (all six states, with some necesary spillover into neighbouring regions).
A website at www.walesnewengland .blogspot. com gives an introduction to the project, and also a questionnaire which you are encouraged to fill in if you might be able to provide the project with information either about current Welsh links to New England (cultural, business or other) or about historical links (part of the project is also to trace the past connections, through trade, immigration, politics, investment, etc.).

        The Need to Remember
Wales, my home, and has been from the day of my birth. A place, where even when I am far away, my thoughts travel back to, as I remember parents, husband, children, grandchildren, loved ones and so many other things that I miss and often yearn for so very much.
Now as I proudly present this beautiful nation to you, may I also present to you a gateway, which as you now walk through, you may begin to enter a time of reflecting, reminiscing, remembering in your own very special way, your unique circumstances.
You may also enjoy a visit to our webshop and there experience a 'Celtic Connection' through our beautiful Welsh & Irish hand crafted items.
