Group Description

I set this list up originally (2005) to serve the Vintage & Military Amateur Radio Society (VMARS). That society failed in 2009 and was shut down. A new version of the same society started up shortly afterwards, but bears little relation to the original society, and has nothing to do with this list whatsoever (apart from having the same name).

The primary reason for leaving this list in place was to retain the valuable archive of questions and answers that was built up, and continues to this day.

This list is now a general purpose one with the aim of promoting the restoration and preservation of all kinds of vintage electronic equipment, whether that be for communication ("transmitters" and "receivers"), radiolocation, target detection ("RADAR"), or IFF ("identification friend or foe").

The only qualification you need to join this group is to be interested in vintage electronics (of the professional rather than the domestic type), and its preservation and history. Membership of "new VMARS" is certainly not relevant.
