Why so much biological diversity? What is it that makes us humans human?

This program attempts to answer these question
with new discoveries about the mechanics of DNA.

      What Darwin Never Knew

See, in particular, chapters 5-14 for a fascinating theory as to why
the human brain evolved to be three times the size of that of chimps.
We've all heard the theories about the importance of meat for that to
have happened. This theory does not involve meat at all.

Another story give more details about this theory:

Another theory says that the evolutionary explosion of brain size had
something to do with the development of cooking. This theory actually
seems to fit in well with the above theory, since a large jaw is less
      necessary when eating cooked food.
