Not neccessarily. Could somenody check other Unixes (Solaris, Aix,
      DEC,...)
      I have a feeling it's really a GNU thing.

Wouldn't it be safer to change the test so it runs everywhere?
Put rm before cp, isn't that all it's needed?

... Charles, what not just putting your Irix 5.3 to the museum, and upgrade to something supported like 6.5 ? :-) [afterburner] ~ (501) % cp -f Insufficient

        Charles,

what not just putting your Irix 5.3 to the museum, and
upgrade to something supported like 6.5 ? :-)

        [afterburner] ~ (501) % cp -f
        Insufficient arguments
Usage: cp [-aDfirRp] [-b size] [-tP -[e size]] file1 file2
        cp [-aDfirRp] [-b size] [-tP -[e size]] file1 ... file2 dir

I hope you're not using an Indigo/1 are you ?

        Cheers
        Stephane

AIX 4.1 has it. AIX 3.2 cp doesn't: it's quite happy to accept -f but
it doesn't appear to do anything useful.
