      I forgot to mention that XIM is not the default input method in GTK
      applications (including GTK version of gvim, obviously). Input method
      can be changed from the right-click menu on some text input fields.
      Globally it can be changed by defining the following environment
      variable:

      GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
