      Hello!

I have a very bright file (>5000 chars) and I want to see different parts of
      a record (1-5, 250-253, 3000-3010 etc).

Is there any posibility to make vertical folders (to hide the columns 6-249,
      254-2999 etc).

      Regards,
      Vlad

          Hi Vlad Ghitulescu,

          1. Vertically split the buffer (:vsp)
          2. Adjust the window border, so that you can hide the unwanted
          characters in window 1 (w1)

          .----+-------.
          | w1 | w2 |
          | | |
          `----+-------'
          ^(window border)

          w1 - window 1
          w2 - window 2

          3. In the second window type the following command
          250|zs
          - 250|, go to 250th column
          - zs, make that column as the start column for that window

Now you can find that characters from 6 to 249 are hidden. Like wise do
for rest of the ranges. Hope some one will give better solution.

          ~VIshnu

In addition to the other native-vim suggestions, although I can't
scrounge it up at the moment (even with a web search), somebody
created a vertical-fold patch for vim. It's unofficial but seems
to work for those that have used it. Hopefully if its author or
any regular users of the patch are on the list, they can pipe up
and let you know where to find it.
