      I've wanted to do this, too. The only way I've found to do it is
      with a BufWinEnter autocommand, which is executed after the FileType
      autocommands. I think putting the following in your ~/.vimrc should
      give you the behavior you want.

      au BufWinEnter * setlocal fo-=o
