Assistant Editor for the magazine section of a gay social networking website
      dot429*Category:* New Media
      *Location:* San Francisco
      *State:* CA
      *Salary:* $26,000
      *Work Schedule:* Full Time
      DESCRIPTION:
Dot429, a LGBT, a social networking site, is looking for an Assistant
Editor to write, edit, and administrate.
A recent New York Times article about dot429 can be read by clicking on
      this link:

I have recently been hired to invigorate the magazine section, and my goal
is to transform it into an incubator for writers who aspire for
journalistic greatness, and see their internship at dot429 as a stepping
stone to writing for the best magazines.
Ideally, the Associate Editor would be capable of writing for the
Economist, Believer, New Republic, Aperture, and the New York Review of
Books. In addition they will have to help manage a motley crew of
freelancers and ambitious, green interns. Savants who use pure cognitive
horsepower to barely meet deadlines should not apply. Geniuses who graffiti
across their to-do lists may apply. The Associate Editor must have prior
experience meeting daily deadlines and not under newsroom pressure.
The Associate Editor will create a daily morning briefing on significant
gay news in the areas of Politics, Business, Culture and Travel. They will
write at least one 200-400 word story per day and one feature story per
week. In addition they will be responsible for maintaining the editorial
calendar and keep track of assignments, due dates and edits. The Assistant
Editor will also be responsible for some administrative tasks in the office.
Our desired editorial tone for shorter pieces is akin to the New York
Observer: sophisticated, playful and knowing. That means that you will have
to possess those qualities. Feature stories should be written in the
author's voice and in a manner that would not look out of place in the New
York Times Magazine or the Atlantic.
If you are interested in the position, please send a cover letter, resume
and at least five clips that show your ability to write editorials, hard
      news, profiles and reviews.
