We are looking for a few good men and women to submit about 1-2 minutes of video footage of themselves after the apocalypse.  All you need to do is read the below background story and film yourself all disheveled and in a messy place telling your own personal story.  (If you do not want to be disheveled, you should explain why everything in your area looks so normal – why you are unaffected by the apocalypse, etc.).

      Node 666 (Background Story)

It began August 22nd, 2006 . Escalating tensions in the Middle East resulted in Iran dropping a nuclear weapon unto Israel .

Into the valley of ARMAGEDDON !!!

This unearths a hidden portal to hell from which a demon army rises up to conquer the earth.

Seeing that the time has come, the alien overlords who have been watching over us as Angels initiate the Rapture protocol to save the human genetic code, randomly transporting a few million of us into their ships, to train for their final battle.

The rest of us are left behind, to face the final apocalypse. A world filled with roving biker gangs, zombie hordes, radiation fallout, and other fun things.

Many die. Some survive. And some …

Form a videoblogging network, to keep in touch during these grim times. They are the members of Node 666.

      And so are you!!!

Tell us what happened to you during this apocalypse. Recreate an event during that day; show us your radioactive vegetable garden. Your mutant cat. Your pet zombie. Your freak children. Whatever.

You have a month. We will help with special effects and final editing between segment to segment.  You can either send us your video at galacticast [at] gmail.com or send us the link to your file online.

Please note that this work will be released under our usual CC license (attribution, non-commercial, share-alike).  If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

      Good luck and godspeed…
      Casey

Don't worry, Ted... I'm agnostic, so you don't have to be any religion
to do this. You just tell your story... from your perspective.

Everyone who participates will have their URL placed on their video in
post-production (we'll standardize it all on our side so all the fonts
and everything are the same) and they will also be linked in the show
notes. So, this is a really good idea for those who are interested in
introducing our audience to their vlog. A creative method for
          self-promotion.

The idea is to be yourself... but yourself living under horrifying
          conditions...

I hope you'll join in the fight,
          Casey

you going to circulate the story/segment ideas of the participants?
Or is the disjointed discombobulated fabric that may arise part of
the theme and fun? I'll work in either context. Just wondering.

                        Hey David!

Take the background story into your mind and try to think about what
your vlog entry would be like if you survived.

Example: Instead of being a resource for great new vlogs, Steve
Garfield's Vlog Soup is now a show to keep track of what vloggers have
                        survived and died.

Show us what YOUR current vlog would be like if this horrifying
tragedy struck... and yes, the stories will be pretty diverse...
                        that's the fun ;)

Looking forward to seeing your entry,
                        Casey

I'm playing with the <embed src="file.mov"> tag, for embedded video.

I want to use it in a video-blog, with a bunch of video clips. Right
now, ALL those videos will begin downloading..I don't want that.

What I want, is when the user hits the "play" button..that the video
will begin to download. Right now, with

                          autoplay="false"

it will DOWNLOAD the video regardless, & when the user hits
                          "play"..the video will begin playing.

Currently, I'm using the Flash based function (from this mailing
list) where an embedded video starts up when you click on an image:

now, ALL those videos will begin downloading..I don't want that.

What I want, is when the user hits the "play" button..that the video
will begin to download. Right now, with

                              autoplay="false"

it will DOWNLOAD the video regardless, & when the user hits
                              "play"..the video will begin playing.

Currently, I'm using the Flash based function (from this mailing
list) where an embedded video starts up when you click on an image:

I implemented it at my blog, as a "test":

                                I changed the tags:

                                controller="false"

tp controller="true", so the image "looks" like a QT controller window

[ unfortunately, if you click on the "play" button, it won't do anything..if you click on the image, it will fire up a QT controller window & play the video ]

I still have some annoying white borders around the image, can't seem to get rid of it.  If I play around with "height" & "width", it fouls up the window for the QT controller (crops it).  When I eliminated the the "height" & "width" tags, I can't get the QT controller to display the play, pause, progress bar.  ??

                                Questions:

                                1) what does the CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" do?

Can I have use it for ALL of my video entries on my video-blog page?

                                2) what does CODEBASE="http://www.apple. com/qtactivex/ qtplugin. cab" do?

Is it responsible for the action "click on the image, fire up the QT controller"?

I went blip.tv & used their "HTML code" for .flv version of my videos.  It basically does what I want:

                                    1) shows a video-player window, with a "play" button

Except, it doesn't show the 1st frame of the video which would be nice.  On the main page for the video (Flash version), it does so:

Compare the above to the 1st blog entry at:

Try using VPIP. Works great for many different video types -- QT, WMV, Flash, etc...

Thanks a lot for your code.

I implemented it at my blog, as a "test":

                                    I changed the tags:

                                    controller=" false"

tp controller="true", so the image "looks" like a QT controller window

[ unfortunately, if you click on the "play" button, it won't do anything..if you click on the image, it will fire up a QT controller window & play the video ]

I still have some annoying white borders around the image, can't seem to get rid of it.  If I play around with "height" & "width", it fouls up the window for the QT controller (crops it).  When I eliminated the the "height" & "width" tags, I can't get the QT controller to display the play, pause, progress bar.  ??

                                    Questions:

                                    1) what does the CLASSID="clsid: 02BF25D5-8C17-4B23- BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" do?

Can I have use it for ALL of my video entries on my video-blog page?

                                    2) what does CODEBASE=" http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" do?

Is it responsible for the action "click on the image, fire up the QT controller"?

You can use the same image for all of your movies or you can use a different one for each.

It downloads the video only when the user hits the play button

The QT controller ALWAYS downloads the video, & when you hit "play"..the video begins playing.

Basically, I want the functionality of the WMV controller for QT movies.

                                    How to do that?

I want to use it in a video-blog, with a bunch of video clips. Right
now, ALL those videos will begin downloading. .I don't want that.

What I want, is when the user hits the "play" button..that the video
will begin to download. Right now, with

                                    autoplay="false"

it will DOWNLOAD the video regardless, & when the user hits
                                    "play"..the video will begin playing.

Currently, I'm using the Flash based function (from this mailing
list) where an embedded video starts up when you click on an image:
