Re: [Victorian Pen Pals] Is anybody out there??????????
- Hello, Cerulean! I'm here! I'm Caren from NE Ohio
(Cleveland area). I am very "into" Victoriana --
I collect magazines and books from the period,
and host a Victorian book discussion group as
well as a tea society that does Victorian
re-enactment events. I love the fashions from the
period and learning all sorts of things about the
culture of the period. I've gone to a few
auctions, although it's not something I do often,
and have seen some lovely Eastlake mirrors. I can
just imagine why you'd want to bring them back to
their original splendor!
My home is not decorated Victorian, which
surprises many of my friends because I'm so into
the period. I'm married to a "cowboy" type and
our place is more western/country style. Very
casual. I'm just beginning to think about
redecorating our bedroom is a French country
style, but haven't made any firm decisions about
Even though it's not the decorating style I've
chosen, I enjoy hearing how others have copied
decorating styles of the period! I like reading
the decorating articles in magazines like
"Victorian Decorating" and seeing what furniture,
wallpaper, paint choices anc accessories the home

- Hello Caren! There IS Life here!
Western country style sounds soooo nice.............I have a passion for Victorian but there IS a drawback: since my home is small- just me and my 19 year old tabby Ambrose- having a totally Victorian home looks beautiful but does not appear as comfortable as most people would like.
To help them feel better I will often drag in some old fat wing chair- or something I will recover or toss with a lot of shabby textiles-- etc.....
Now, French country............an be sooooooo lovely........are you going to use the traditional blues and whites? What are you going to change, etc? Does French country style not also include painted furniture? I am just beginning to paint furniture rather than refinish. Are we allowed to share photos here? It would be fun to see what you do.
I envy you your Victorian tea socials- and I know very little about personal dress from that period. Are there any good websites out there?
