VSS is proud to announce the launch of the FREE 21-day Veg Buddy Programme where those interested in trying a vegetarian diet will be paired with a vegetarian buddy to help get started on their journey. The programme includes a welcome dinner, movie screenings and group gatherings with other pairs to build the community spirit and support network, which is crucial in embarking on a vegetarian diet lifestyle. Each batch of participants will be kept small to ensure maximum benefit, but there will continue to be sessions as long as there is interest.
To celebrate the publication of the Heart Smart Oil-Free Cookbook published by Mayura Mohta and Dr George Jacobs, another oil-free MeetUp in collaboration with Seven Sensations has been scheduled on 19 Apr (Fri). Enjoy a healthy and tasty oil-free dinner at one of the most popular vegetarian restaurants in town with the specially designed menu featuring 5 courses and costing just $22.
During the MeetUp, the Heart-Smart Oil Free Cookbook, which is based on the groundbreaking research of Dr Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr of the world renowned Cleveland Clinic, will be on sale as well.

Often, food addiction holds us back from optimal health and is an underlying factor of many health conditions. This session confronts our slavery to the palate and explores solutions so we can be empowered to be the master of our health.

Popular speaker Dr Tan Pik Yee has been engaged to present on the topic of heart health this coming Sunday. Being a certified quit smoking consultant, she has the conducted smoking cessation talks and training for more than 25 companies. She has also conducted corporate wellness programmes in the area of health screening, nutrition, exercise, weight management and stress management for numerous organizations. Our friends at Ananda Marga, a non-profit oragnisation that propagates self-realisation and service to humanity, is organising a Yoga Awareness Dinner to remind us to take a moment off our busy schedules to spend time with friends and family through a healthy dinner. Aimed at raising funds for the organisation to continue on with their mission and to show appreciation for the support they have received, participants can look forward to a sumptuous 8-course vegetarian spread prepared by the famous "Fo You Yuan" vegetarian restaurant, a line-up of entertaining performances, door gifts and even a lucky draw.

Father Frank Mann, a catholic priest of 34 years who serves in Queens, New York, is a gifted writer and speaker known for his infectious enthusiasm and warm sense of humor. He recently had a deep personal awakening to the plight of animals, and has since incorporated the values of veganism and animal rights into his spiritual life and vision of a more just and peaceful world.

If you've ever wondered what the best vegan blogs are out there, then the list offered by the Institute for the Psychology of Eating may help. An independent organisation that "does not endorse or promote any particular diet", it does however "encourage the exploration of a wide variety of dietary approaches with the objective that each person discovers what works best for them". Irene Abrigo, a vegan violinist from Turin, Italy, who is currently based in Switzerland, is currently working on a personal and artistic project titled 24 Capricci di Puganini, which is a series of 24 short-films (silent-movie) in collaboration with the Italian photographer and director Claudio Molinaro. The central theme of the films is sustainability, ecology, respect for animals, organic living and nature. Irene will donate the profits from sales to the International Center for Alternatives in Research and Education (I-CARE) which works for the progress of scientific research without using animals (test or vivisection).

VegNews co-founder Colleen Holland has drawn up a list of 15 vegan cookbooks that have been eagerly anticipated in 2013. Unsurprisingly, The China Study Cookbook, the accompanying cookbook to the most influential books on plant-based health every written - T. Colin Campbell's The China Study, is on the list. The China Study Cookbook is written by Professor Campbell's daughter, LeAnne Campbell (herself a mom to two teenage boys), and includes easy-to-make recipes such as Breakfast Home-Fry Hash, Fabulous Sweet Potato Enchiladas, and No-Bake Peanut Butter Bars.

Bliss and Wisdom Society will be conducting a series of "Mind and Body Wellness cum Vegetarian Cooking class" starting April to June 2013. A total of 6 lessons will be held in English over 6 Saturdays and cover elements of eco-friendly diet and lifestyle and healthy vegan diet cooking, among others.

We sometimes ask ourselves difficult questions such as 'what is the purpose of life' and 'why am I less fortunate than others'. The Theosophical Society, a non-sectarian movement engaged in the promotion of Universal Brotherhood and study of the Laws of Nature governing the universe, tries to provide answers to some of the perennial and perplexing questions about life and its purpose. Its Course in Theosophy and Meditation, in particular, aims to offer insight into ancient wisdom as well as meditation. Conducted only twice a year, the next one will be held from 02 May to 23 May.
