Last issue, we reported that Kampung Senang, with a bit of help from VSS, has produced and is selling a reusable shopping bag. Just what the fashionable green shopper needs! The VSS logo and URL, as well as the Kampung Senang logo, are featured on the bag. For photos: http://www.kg-senang.org.sg/HolisticLifeStyleCentre.htm

The bags were made by a Bangladesh Waldorf School , a volunteer initiative to provide local street children with housing and schooling. Bio-dynamic farming is part of their curriculum. Funds that the school earned from producing the bag are being used to build new classrooms.

      Funny Vegetarian Quotes

There are many veg-relevant videos on YouTube. Here’s one with veg-related quotes (some of them rather strange) with pictures and music to go with them:

Lingzhi Moves from Far East Square to VeloCity

One of Singapore ’s most prestigious Chinese veg restaurants, Lingzhi, has moved its Far East Square outlet to VeloCity @ Novena Square, #03/09-10, 6538.2992. Hours are 11am-3pm (last order, 2.30pm) and 6pm-10pm (last order, 9.30pm). Lingzhi’s Liat Tower outlet remains.

      Cooking Course by Sophia

VSS has a special place in its heart for Mdm Sophia Teh’s New Green Pasture Café, 190 Middle Rd , Fortune Centre, #04-22, Tel: 6336.8755. In addition to great tasting organic veg food, Sophia offers serve-yourself soup at $1/bowl, with that $1 going to VSS.

Sophia also does cooking classes. While the classes are in Mandarin, people whose Mandarin isn’t all quite there have taken the course and gotten through it with Sophia’s help. You can tell from the clever names of some of the dishes that Sophia’s English is quite good.

      The Evolution of Vegetarian Food

Although this article is from the US , what it depicts is happening in Singapore , too: vegetarian food is becoming more varied and healthier; and, in its many guises, it’s showing up on menus of more and more non-veg outlets.

And, one more important article: ‘Rethinking the Meat-Guzzler’. Great graphics: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/weekinreview/27bittman.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
