I assume that everyone in the group knows the Antelope Island event starts tomorrow afternoon and runs through Sunday?  As a brand new flier at the time I just stumbled on it by pure accident (fate?) last year and found it fun and inspiring.  Nice to give fate a little nudge now and then, thus this post.  I hope to see others of you there, too, as well as out on other fields later this fall.  Sorry to have missed some of the meets mentioned here this summer, but it's been a long field season away from town.
By the way, I've had several enjoyable afternoons and evenings flying out at SaltAir lately; the flats to the west of the building are actually dry and relatively bug-free this time of year, plenty of room, and an exotic view to say the least!

Well, I think the weather might be turning around to the warmer side from
this point forward! Getting ready for all of the kite event this year? There
really are a lot of them (I just got done writing this email and... there
      are a LOT of events)!

Yesterday the Dixie Escalante Kite Festival took place in St George. KSL
even has a short write up on the event:

This next Saturday (4/23) is Easter Eggstream at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi
(Electric Park). Doors open at 10pm and the egg hunt starts at 1pm. The Utah
Kite Fliers have been invited out to fly at this event, same as last year.
It's really a lot of fun and just over in Lehi (10 minutes away from SLC).
Everyone at Thanksgiving Point has always been great to the club and it's a
great place to fly. This year Brittney has offered us some passes in case
some people would like to visit the properties some other time! I hear the
Dinosaur Museum is impressive. I've posted some more information and a map
of where we'd be fling at the following URL:

Please consider coming out and supporting the club! The more fliers the
better... as Thanksgiving point has asked us to come out for other events as
well (Dog Days in June). Please let me know if you plan on coming out. Just
let the people at the gate know you are with the kite fliers.

We also have Kiting Just for Fun happening the weekend after that (4/30) in
Idaho Falls, ID! This event it put on by Dean and his wife with Sunrise
Kites in Idaho Falls. This is the 11th annual event! Dean has always
extended an open invitation for the Utah Kite Fliers to fly at the event and
it attracts a lot of fliers from ID and the surrounding states. This event
is one that you should not miss. It starts at noon (but we usually get there
in the morning to start flying) and runs until 5pm (but we usually stay
longer, until Dean gets everything packed up). There is plenty of room to
fly, with the center of the race track (Sandy Downs) set up for single line
kites. This year there should be a lot of large SLKs! More info at the
      following URL:

** Also, bring some can goods as they will collecting them for the Idaho
Food Bank. Farmers Claims dept will be preparing hot dogs and drinks and
asking for donations. 100% of the donations go to the Idaho Food bank!

Dog Day at Thanksgiving Point is June 17 and 18 (Friday and Saturday).
Thanksgiving Point has asked the club to fly at Dog Days, same as last year.
Last year was a lot of fun. Very laid back. We spend the whole day flying
kites and talking. Really a lot of fun! Thanksgiving Point is really a great
place to fly. It usually has great winds and is local to SLC. Thanksgiving
Point is also a great host and always welcomed the club to come out and fly
kites for the people who visit the event. It's really a great place to show
people what kite flying is all about!

Did I mention that the Utah Kite Flies have been invited out to a lot of
events this year? :). This year there is a brand new event at Bear Lake, on
the Idaho side. Dean with Sunrise Kites and 2 local Chambers of Commerce's
are putting on this event. I've spoken with them and they are really excited
about turning this in a yearly event! It takes place on the northern short
of Bear Lake. That area has a _huge_ beach and the bluest of blue water.
Rolling hills surround the area with very few trees. I'm told it's always
windy there. Sounds like the most perfect spot for a big kite event!
Everyone has been eagerly anticipating this event. Music, kites, cool
breezes, miles of beach... just perfect for kite flying. It takes place June
25 from noon to 5pm. I'll post more in the next few weeks but here is their

So many events this season! We've been really lucky to have so many events
to attend, with so many people asking us back out. Everyone really needs to
see about coming out and flying kites at these events. The club has grown
and we really need to see about getting everyone together to fly kites at
these events and drawing in more people who are interested in flying. It's
also a great opportunity for everyone to get together and share ideas, fly
kites and have a lot of fun! So please plan on coming out and flying some
