      but on Aug. 1/14 rather than on Epiphany Eve.

      In that case, the Cross is to be brought out at the Great Doxology, followed by a water
      blessing, the veneration of the Cross and the conclusion of Matins (held in the morning,
      rather than on the evening before).

      This may explain the custom of holding the blessing of waters before the Hours, on the
      morning of a patronal feast.
