Group Description

This is a site for members who's ancestors served on board the U.S.S. Michigan/Wolverine stationed at Erie Pennsylvania. This group is for sharing historical information, pictures, stories, etc. Emphasis is upon the Spanish American war, but not limited to.

"In 1898, the vessel was originally commanded by Lt. Cmdr R. Rush. He was
replaced by Lt. Cmdr. W. H. Everett on March 1, 1898. As the military
prepared for war, Everett was repalced by Boatswain Charles Miller on April
15, 1898. A boatswain in command of a vessel was quite unusual, especially
since he was not even an officer." (I would like to thank Patrick for this information) This ship never saw battle, but still was a part of history in America for being the first iron hulled ship, a proto-type for ships to come.
