Tomboy Takes "Top Model" Crown Thu Jul 10, 9:35 AM ET By Anderson Jones; E! Online
Adrianne Curry, known to fans of America's Next Top Model for her straight-talking, uninhibited antics and part of the so-called hell-bound clique, was crowned the inaugural Top Model Tuesday night during the season finale of UPN's summertime guilty pleasure. Overwhelmed when a curtain dropped revealing a blowup of her face as the winner, Curry had to hold onto fellow finalist--and avowed Christian good girl--Shannon Stewart to keep her balance.
But it's a secret Curry has had to keep since February.
"I came home and acted depressed and, finally, when they released the names [of finalists], I had people convinced that I was gone after show one, and, during the entire thing, I showed no enthusiasm," says Curry by cell phone after landing in Chicago for a spot on Fox News, after a whirlwind press tour of New York. "I was like, 'Yeah it must be nice to win.' Some of my friends expected it, and they're all pissed with me, and they're calling me a lying sack of sh-t."
A waitress from Joliet, Illinois, Curry, 20, never imagined she would win the American Idol-esque competition.
"From the get-go, I thought Elyse [Sewell] was going to win," Curry says. "And after seeing the show, I'm so shocked that she pulled her 'I'm more superior than you' bulls--t with the experts. I didn't understand why, in God's name, they picked me over her at all until I finally got to see it on TV, and now I want to give her a call and say, 'You dumbass.' "
Sewell finished in third place and was the first contestant ejected during Tuesday night's finale.
Curry, meanwhile, says she won't be waitressing again any time soon.
"F--k that," she laughs.
In some ways, her win--which awards her a photo spread in Marie Claire magazine, a contract with Revlon and representation by Wilhelmina Models--was shocking to the Top Model audience as well. Over the 10-week course of the show, Tyra Banks, the show's host and executive producer, described Curry as a "rock 'n' roll tomboy...rough around the edges and in need of a lot of polish." Curry only won one of the show's eye-rolling "challenges"; they included photo shoots (with snakes, a hot boy model and even sans clothes), tests on their runway walk, applying makeup (for day and night) and wearing haute couture fashion. Ironically, Curry, took that prize, which was really a test of her ladylikeness while interacting with four French aristocrats.
But viewers knew that Curry was a trouper.
During an early episode of the series, Curry came down with a nasty case of food poisoning and almost missed one of the weekly elimination rounds, which would have immediately disqualified her. But she showed up, green and weak, to take criticism from the show's judges, including Banks, Janice Dickinson (the "world's first" supermodel), Marie Claire's fashion editor Beau Quillian and Baby Phat creative director Kimora Lee Simmons.
Even when supposed pal Sewell included Curry in a withering rant, it rolled off her back.
"We're freaking snarky bitches," Adrianne says. "I loved it. She gave me air time. She let Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith of Jay and Silent Bob know just how much I love them. Oh my God, I would die to meet Jay, that's like my dream man."
UPN already has a second season of the show in the works.

The Incredible Hulk (Animated Series) (2003) (NEW!)
The DVD compiles the first four episodes of the 1996-97 animated series, which outline the Hulk's origins, as well as the struggles of his human alter ego, Bruce Banner, to rid himself of the creature. The episodes also make fine use of Marvel's rosters of heroes and villains; in the two-part "Return of the Beast," the Hulk tangles with the Leader, the Gargoyle, and the hideous Abomination, while in "Raw Power," he's up against the malevolent ZZZAX; and in "Helping Hand, Iron Fist," he goes mano-a-mano with Iron Man and War Machine. Terrific performances (TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno provides the creature's voice) and extensive extras make this DVD a must-have for comic and cartoon aficionados. --Paul Gaita
