TO: Members & Friends of the United Nations Association

Do you know a government worker who is performing a great public service for the people of Oklahoma?

Perhaps they are under-appreciated or they never get all the recognition they truly deserve.

Our OKC chapter of the UN Association is seeking to honor a public sector employee who represents the best and most valuable contributions of government workers in our state.

You're invited to nominate a public sector worker for this award.

Here's the background on the 2012 UNA-OKC Public Service Award.

The General Assembly of the United Nations has designated June 23rd as "Public Service Day" -- an annual day intended to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community.

To commemorate this day, our chapter of the UN Association has created the UNA-OKC Public Service Award -- to honor a county, state or other governmental employee whose work serves to promote "...social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom." (From the Preamble to the UN Charter).

In 2011, our award winner was Lester Claravall, a specialist in child labor law enforcement for the Oklahoma Department of Labor. You can read about his award on our website:

      www.una-okc.org/public_service

This year, our winner will be selected on the basis of: (1) The employee's contribution to excellence and innovation in public service; and (2) The manner in which the employee's efforts help to illustrate the global community's common commitment to "social progress" and "better standards of life."

Eligible nominees include a current employee of any governmental organization -- state, federal, county, municipal, local school district, etc.

Anyone can submit a nomination by using our online form. For more details, see our website:

      www.una-okc.org

The deadline for nominations is June 8th. Our 2012 winner will be announced during the week of June 23rd.

Please help us recognize a public servant who is deserving of recogniton by our Association.

All nominations will be carefully considered.

If you have any questions about this award, please be sure to let me know.

Thanks for your support of the ideals and values of the United Nations!
