      Here is a more thorough description of the medical epidemiologist position above. 




      The senior surveillance officer position serves a crucial function within the CDC-Zimbabwe office to support the national response to HIV and AIDS.   CDC-Zimbabwe is entering its fourth year, and to date has been on the cutting edge of HIV surveillance projects in collaboration with partners, including:  first HIV-related community-based survey of Youth (YAS+)in 2001 including behavioral, service uptake, and bio-markers; improving routine ANC surveillance--including incorporation of scannable documents and barcodes to facilitate efficient and accurate data; completion of first in-country estimates process using improved data and methodology; strengthening local mathematical modeling capacity for predicting impact of scaled interventions.  Officer would be expected to take a leadership role in collaboration and capacity-building with partners, activities including:  annual ANC survey and national estimates processes; 2005 DHS-plus survey (modified to ensure trend capacity with existing YAS+ 2001 data; modeling working group; information exchange with other CDC-GAP programs in the region; teaching and curriculum development with University of Zimbabwe MPH program; epidemiologic analysis of additional data sets/projects per interest.
