HIV/AIDS: Sweden To Donate $1.4 Million

Sweden announced yesterday it would donate $1.4 million for two
at teaching Malawian youth aged 10 to 25 about the need to practice
guard against HIV/AIDS.
Fourteen percent of Malawi's population of 9.9 million is infected with HIV or
with AIDS, according to Swedish International Development
Agency spokesperson Anna Runeborg. She added that one-quarter of girls
quit high school because of pregnancy. "Sexual education is one of
important steps in the efforts to reduce the spreading of HIV and AIDS in

Earlier reports indicated that of Malawi's HIV-positive population, only
to anti-retroviral drug therapy (UN Wire, 1 Nov 2000).
