On January 15, 2013 the Dept. of Homeland Security began implementing the REAL ID ACT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAL_ID_Act#Legislative_historyHere in Missouri they are requiring that we allow them to take our SS#, copy it and send it off to god knows where, where they will produce the card. (This is in violation not only of our state statutes but of US Code. ) This card will also have an RFID chip. So, we must produce and allow the DVM to copy and send off everything a person needs to steal one's identity. In Missouri they wont even tell us where the info is going. Interestingly, the states don't HAVE to comply but here in Missouri they have been given a lot of money and new equipment to make this happen. All of our DMVs are privately owned, thanks to Governor Blunt who made sure he paid back the people who put him in office. So if it hasn't happened in your state yet, you might have a chance to stop it. IT IS NOT MANDATORY. Read your states
