Unified Field Theory started when a priest Father Boscovich presented his theory in the 18th Century.

This was highly influential, and the Catholic Church lifted its Ban on the Copernican Heliocentrism theory.

i.e. the Catholic Church switched over to the Physics Theory of Father Boscovich.

The Catholic Church promotes Father Boscovich as being the Father of Atomic theory.

The atoms of cause are affected by a field-- namely the unified field -- hence why its the unified field theory.

Of course after Boscovich's theory was presented, there was a lot of thought among the scientists as to whether it was correct.

Eventually, the Top Scientist of the day which was Lord Kelvin decided Boscovich's theory was correct.

Under the influence of Lord Kelvin, the other British scientists JJ Thomson, Eddington etc were working from Boscovich's theory.

      Then up pops Einstein.

The British scientists recognise that Einstein was working from Boscovich's theory, and confirm the predictions that Einstein makes from that theory such as bending of starlight - which was confirmed by Eddington in 1919.

Einstein becomes famous in the World Press.

And the World Press announce a Revolution in Physics of Einstein's theories.

But more accurately it was Einstein's calculations made within the relativity aspects of Boscovich's theory.

The other aspect of Boscovich's theory which was the atoms was what the Atomic scientists such as Niels Bohr and Heisenberg (head of the Nazi project to make the Atom Bomb) were working from.

After WWII with the horrors of the Atom Bomb.

Boscovich's theory was then dropped from the Physics Education system of Universities.

It became one of those taboo subjects-- where you don't even mention its taboo, just don't mention it.

      Like what happened to Rupp.

Presumably, the theory is still carried on in the Black Ops side of Science, but not in the white ops of Academia.

Of course, greatest scientist of late 19th Century --- Tesla (see film The Prestige) was working from Boscovich's theory, and what he got up to is mostly taboo also.

Tesla was a Radio pioneer and claimed radio contact with aliens. Those signals are still around today, but SETI has been persuaded to ignore them. SETI claims looking for ET radio signals, but when they get same radio signals as what Tesla got, they just ignore them.
