This discussion list is intended to be a medium for all foreigners who are trying to learn Turkish or speak Turkish as a second language. Native speakers interested in language teaching/learning related matters or would like to volunteer to help are also encouraged to join in the discussions.
All topics related to Turkish language are welcome.
Since culture and language are closely entwined, the discussions might occassionally expand to cultural topics. However, the list is a virtual classroom for learners where they can interact with each other and with native speakers of Turkish, and this should stay as the primary function of it.
If you are new to the discussion lists, you may want to have a look at the "discussion list etiquette" .
We kindly ask advanced learners and native speakers not to forget giving a small summary in English if you write in Turkish. Not to annoy you but to try not to lose our less proficient friends.
We also ask everybody to spend some time figuring out how to use the correct Turkish characters. We are convinced that on virtually any platform today it should not be very difficult to use Turkish characters. If you make this effort and encode your messages with Iso-8859, UTF-8 or Windows 1254 we'll all be much better off. Ignoring all together the Turkish special characters as is common among some native speakers is inacceptable in this list. Ask us if you have problems!
Note that when applying to become a group member, we expect a sentence that shows your interest in the language (in other words, it doesn't tell us anything if you just say "hi").
