Pronounce the title of this observant comedy a few times and you'll realize
what it means: television - a new marvel planned by state officials for
installation in a small insular village in southeastern Turkey in 1974.
Townsfolk react with fear, wonder and anticipation. For traditionalists, TV
represents the devil, others think it will bring great happiness and
entrepreneurs look to it as a business opportunity. Meanwhile, the owner of
the outdoor cinema sees his audience (and his standing in the community)
fall like bad ratings. But for the local repairman, 'Crazy Emin', the
question is simply how to get the thing to work? A hilarious film about the
practical and theoretical clash of the modern with the traditional. The film
is a directorial debut for co-directors Erdogan and Sorak, both in their
thirties. In Turkish with English subtitles. (105 min.)
