      * MECA TURKISH FOLK DANCE PERFORMANCE, 3 Jun 2001, Houston, TX, USA

      MECA TURKISH FOLK DANCE PERFORMANCE
Turkish Folk Dance Group free performance
MECA's Sunday Concert Series presents a free performance by the Turkish Folk
Dance Group (TFDG) of the American Turkish Association of Houston. The dancers,
most of whom are originally from Turkey, will present lively traditional Turkish
dances in richly colored, authentic costumes. The dances are from several of
Turkey's diverse regions and usually tell stories about the people they
represent. There are dances about harvests, fishermen, and even one about wood
craftsmen that whimsically incorporates wooden spoons.

MECA [pronounced meck-uh] presents these free programs the first Sunday of every
month in an effort to share the art forms of various cultures with the
community. These Sunday Concerts are generously underwritten by the Cullen Trust
      for the Performing Arts.
