Two opennings at Applied Biosystems located at foster

      Please contact Kevin Smith at

you may mention Yong Huang as a reference to experdite
      your application.

      Happy New Year!

      Scientist, Bacteriology

This scientist will participate in the design and
      development of fully integrated microfluidic
      (lab-on-a-chip) assay systems (pMDs). Provide
bacteriology support for initial pMDs which will focus
on nucleic acid based pathogen detection and
      measurement systems.

Major Responsibilities: Participate in the design,
      development, and testing of microfluidic
(lab-on-a-chip) systems for the detection and analysis
of microorganisms. As a key member of the development
team will provide microbiology support for all aspects
of integrated sample preparation and assay
      development. Detailed Responsibilities: Establish and
maintain microbiology facility, guidelines, and safety
strategies. Specify, design, and support microbial
test methods, equipment and procedures. Laboratory
      cultivation, isolation, and identification of
      microorganisms including pathogens. Writing protocols
and conducting validations of microbiological test
methods and equipment. In partnership with manager,
ensures compliance with all applicable microbiological
testing, and monitoring, and safety regulations.
Per-forming and documenting internal audits with
respect to Microbiology Lab compliance. Participate in
the design and testing of sample preparation and assay
systems for pathogens. Design experiments, analyze
data, and report results in writing and in
presentations. Assist in development of platform
      performance specifications and control limits.

Ph.D. in Bacteriology or related discipline and 5+
years directly relevant experience in bacteriology (or
M.S. with 6+ years relevant experience). Proficiency
      with microbiological assays, methodologies, including
molecular methods. Working knowledge of molecular
biology, use of standard bioanalytical & wet chemistry
methods. Experience working with pathogens is
      required. Clinical microbiology and/or sample
      preparation experience is desirable.

Job Title Staff Scientist, Diagnostic Assays and
      Pathogen Identification
      Company Applied Biosystems
      Location Foster City, CA
Job Function Assay Development for Pathogen
Identification and Application for Diagnostic Tests
      Major Responsibilities:Develop novel assays and
      methodology for pathogen identification. Implement
these technologies into novel instrumentation and
apply those to diagnostic relevant situations. Perform
benchmarking studies to diagnostic reference tests.
Define, identify, execute and meet project and
timelines. The candidate will need to work in this
hands-on position extensively with pathogens. A broad
background of molecular and microbiology techniques is
a must. Ideally experience with DNA, protein and cell
based diagnostic and clinical tests. The candidate
interacts in a highly multidisciplinary team with
      scientists of different education.
Education Ph.D. in Microbiology, Bacteriology, Food
Sciences, Toxicology or MD with specialization in
laboratory medicine/Infectious Diseases, and 4+ years
of industrial hands on experience ideally in a well
renowned reference testing laboratory or diagnostic
Experience 4+ years post PhD/MD experience
      Personnel traits Self-motivated, innovative,
hands-on, team-player, works well in an
