i purchased a y2k tbs in dec 01 from an out of state dealer, untitled, 319 miles, full warranty. to make a long story short, i got a letter today (after the state cashed my $909 registration/title check which i do NOT have back yet) that states:
"California law prohibits California residents from purchasing or acquiring a 49-state vehicle (out of state vehicle) with less than 7500 odometer miles if the vehicle has not been manufactured to meet California pollution control standards (California Health & Safety Code Sections 43150 through 43156). As evidenced by Enter Info Here (sic. -alex), this vehicle had less than 7500 odometer miles on the date the vehicle was acquired or purchased.
Therefore, California Vehicle Code Section 4750 requires this department to refuse to register or title your vehicle. You have 30 days from the date of this letter to respond in writing stating any reason(s) you feel this action should not be taken.
* Please surrender California License Plates XXXXXX to the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles office as soon as possible... (...) These license plates are no longer valid to move, operate or leave the vehicle standing upon any highway. You may obtain a One Way Moving Permit from your local Department of Motor Vehicles office for the purpose of removing this vehicle from California"
opened the letter today. blah. just got back from vacation - 2 week cruising around so. cal and ariz. and am ready to take it to 6k service. the way the people at local dmv explained it i thought i could just show up later with 7500 miles on the bike.
am contemplating options, the bike is bone stock except for (nla) polished alloy sissy bar/luggage rack (thanks randy - if u want to buy it back email me and i
will sell it seperate)
i'd be more than happy to deliver the bike using my $909 one way moving permit, buyer would have 2 yr warranty from 12/01 and a fresh bike very meticulously broken in.
$8k delivered continental north america incl. cortech saddlebags/tail bag and triumph tank bag, triumph toolkit and owners manual (some dealers will tell you they don't come with these standard :( ) price open to limited neg.
