The M.V. Edinburgh departed Cape Town on the 20th August for the
beginning of the 2008/2009 fishing season, she arrived at Tristan on
the 28th August, unloaded the cargo and departed for the fishing
grounds, accompanied by Sea Fishery observer Rodney Green.
For this season she has a total of 368mt of lobster to catch between
the islands of Inaccessible, Nightingale and Gough Island.
The Kelso departed Tristan on the 29th August, after acting as a
factory ship for a fleet of 5 boats from Trisatn Da Cunha.
During the period July/August approximately 49mt was processed on the
vessel, from a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 190mt, the quota set for
the Island at Tristan da Cunha. The Kelso arrived in Cape Town on the
4th September and is due to departed from Cape Town on Wednesday 10th
September for her second voyage. The local boats from Tristan will
again join her on arrival at Tristan, and the crews of the fishing
boats will rotate weekly.
The South African research ship SA Aghulas departed Cape Town on
Thursday the the 4th September for Tristan on her annually voyage to
Tristan, and to change the Metrological Team at Gough Island.
