Mo Rocca and the 2004 TR Public Speaking Contest
                                                                    for New York City

We are pleased to announce that the Finals of the Theodore Roosevelt Public Speaking Contest will be held on Friday, June 4, 2004, at 10:00 am, in the auditorium of the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site,  28 East 20th Street in Manhattan. We are also pleased to report that TRA member Mo Rocca will be one of the judges at the Finals.
For those persons who do not own a television set, Mo Rocca is a contributing editor on the Today show and a regular correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He is also a standup comedian, popular on college campuses and elsewhere. He has been a member of the TRA for some years.
The oldest competition/program in the New York public school system, the TR Public Speaking contest dates back to the 1920s; and is open to students in all NYC high schools.  The first prize is a $ 5,000 college scholarship, given by an anonymous donor; there are also second and third prizes; and all finalists receive a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.   Dr. Mike Manson ran the contest for some years, and this year Linda Milano, Asst. Director of the TRA, is in charge of the contest.
The finalists are chosen at the Semi-Finals, also held at TR Birthplace. There is also a TR Public Speaking Contest on Long Island, under the direction of the Friends of Sagamore Hill, a chapter of the TRA.
