                                                 " TR: An American Lion"
I am pleased to announce that "TR: An American Lion," the four-hour documentary brilliantly directed and produced by David de Vries, first shown on "The History Channel" on the nights of January 20 and 21, 2003, has been chosen by CINE Awards to receive the CINE Golden Eagle and also the Special Jury Award as the Outstanding Historical Documentary for 2003.  These honors will be bestowed in Washington, DC on April 22, 2004.
These honors are well deserved by David de Vries, and all who took part in the production of this great documentary should feel pride and pleasure that
"TR: An American Lion" is receiving the professional and public recognition that the documentary deserves.
The actor Richard Dreyfuss did the voice of TR in the documentary, and Edward Hermann was the narrator. Such historians and members of the Roosevelt family as
Edmund and Sylvia Morris, Kathleen Dalton, Edith Derby Williams, Kathleen Dalton, Jonathan Roosevelt, Jr., Nancy Roosevelt Jackson, H.W. Brands, Luke Hornblower,
Susan Dunn, Kermit Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, IV, Tweed Roosevelt, and John Milton Cooper appeared in this documentary, as did Governor George Pataki and former President Clinton. President George W. Bush introduced the documentary when it was shown in January of 2003. TR impersonator James Foote also appeared in the production, which was written as well as directed and produced by David de Vries for Greystone and "The History Channel."
