      On Thursday, October 19th (6 pm),
      Edward J. Renehan Jr., author of Dark Genius of Wall Street: The Misunderstood Life of Jay Gould, King of the Robber Barons, will take to the stage in the auditorium at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site (28 East 20th Street, between Park Avenue & Broadway) to discuss Manhattan as Jay Gould knew it in the heyday of the Gilded Age. Renehan's talk kicks off a new lecture series - Third Thursdays at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace - featuring major authors and academics discussing key aspects of New York City History. Additional lecturers include Barnet Schecter (November 16th, 6 pm), author of The Devil's Own Work: The Civil War Draft Riots and the Fight to Reconstruct America, discussing the riots that shook Manhattan during the summer of 1863 ... Chrstopher M. Finan (February 15th, 2007, 6 pm), author of Alfred E. Smith: The Happy Warrior, speaking about the irrepressible Manhattan politico ... and Kenneth E. Silverman (March 15th, 6 pm), Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer of Cotton Mather, Edgar A. Poe, Samuel Morse, and Houdini, discussing "Three New Yorkers: Samuel F.B. Morse, Harry Houdini, and John Cage." Admission to each lecture is free. Books will be available for sale and signing.
