I watched Part 1 of the Samurai Trilogy Saturday on IFC (again, I own the three of them). Isn't Kaoru Yachiguso wonderful? Mariko Okada (Akemi) was very good as well but Yachiguso creates such a sweet character.

What strikes me each time I see these films is how wonderfully Mifune makes the transition from wild Takezo to the focused Musashi. He allows the transformation to be totally believable, growing further throughout all the films.
