Subject: DCMC: 2012 Latin American Fishery Fellows Program Announcement

    Dear Friends and Colleagues,

After a very successful first year, we are excited to announce that the Bren School is now accepting applications for the second cohort of fellows for the Latin America Fishery Fellows (LAFF) Program. This prestigious fellowship supports Masters’ students at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and will be awarded to up to four highly qualified students who are dedicated to a career in Latin America.

The goal of the LAFF Program is to train a new generation of leaders in fisheries and marine resource management and conservation, who will accelerate the path to ocean resource sustainability in Latin America. The fellowship provides full financial support for the two year degree program, including tuition and fees, living expenses, and a paid summer internship.

Attached is the full fellowship announcement in English, Spanish, and Portuguese along with the supplemental fellowship application. This information is also available at: http://www.bren.ucsb.edu/admissions/fisheries_fellows.html.

Please circulate this announcement as broadly as possible to any prospective students or colleagues who may recommend potential fellowship candidates.

Please note that the fast-approaching deadline for submitting the Bren School application is January 3, 2012 and the deadline for the supplemental fellowship application is January 15, 2012. GRE and TOEFL tests are required both for admission to the Bren School and the LAFF program. Please feel free to contact us or have prospective students us at fishfellowship@... if you have any other questions about the fellowship or if you are interested in receiving printed copies of the announcement to disseminate.

Thanks very much for your help in distributing this announcement. We look forward to another outstanding cohort of fellows joining the Bren community.

    Sincerely,
    Michaela Clemence
Latin American Fishery Fellow Program Coordinator
