WHAT would the Daleks make of this?
This is the first glimpse of a garden designed to
mark Doctor Whos links with Cardiff, which will
go on display at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The design, featuring a lifesize Tardis with
lights and sound effects, also includes a 1960s
Cardiff rugby shirt and a Doctor Who annual whose
cover star is the original Doctor, William Hartnell.
And the famous police box, complete with flashing
lights and sound effects, is the centrepiece of
the display, which is named A Garden In Time and
based around the birth of the series in 1963.
Created by Cardiff council landscape officer Mo
Dorken and her team, one half of the site shows a
1960s urban garden, while the other half is based
around modern gardening ideas and styles.
The Chelsea Flower Show is iconic and attracts
great attention and thousands of visitors from
around the world, said Coun Nigel Howells,
Cardiff councils executive member for sport, leisure and culture.
We are proud that Cardiff will be represented
there, and Im sure A Garden In Time will do justice to the city and to Wales.
Cardiffs latest appearance at the Chelsea Flower
Show follows its success in claiming the Royal
Horticultural Societys Britain in Bloom title
two years ago and being awarded the gold medal at
the Entente Florale competition last year.
Filming of Doctor Who which stars Scottish
actor David Tennant as the new Timelord
switched to Cardiff in 2005 and became a massive
hit with viewers, spawning a successful spin-off, Torchwood.
