Group Description

Welcome to the Tolkien Read-Along. We have just finished (June 2003) discussion of The Lord of the Rings (well, never really finished, but the scheduled part is done!). Now we are ready to begin on The Silmarillion. This is terra incognita for many of us, so we will be keeping a slower pace than we did for LoTR. Look in the Files section for the genealogies that are key to the stories. If you have or would like to see anything else of a helpful nature uploaded, contact the mods. Once we get a feel for how long we wish to take on a given section, the Calendar will be updated accordingly. You can read back posts for LoTR, the Hobbit and the Sil here: Tolkien Read-Along Archive. Please note: your posts will be moderated by some very nice fanatics! You will see a delay in the posting of your messages, as they must be approved by one of the moderators, please do not re-post—we will delete multiple postings. Contact one of the moderators if you have trouble or questions.
We have a few guidelines to keep it fun for everyone -

On topic:

We are gathered to read and discuss J.R.R.Tolkien’s books, so let’s stick with that. There are plenty of other places to discuss everything else.

Discussion and exchange of ideas are what we are here for, but keep it clean and focused on the subject matter – no flaming, no personal attacks.

We are a diverse group. Please respect others' views on matters religious/spiritual, social, moral, political, etc. (Commonsense and good manners.) Ok, then, let's go!
