I watch a lot of TV shows & movies with closed captioning on.
I am 70 YO and I find it helps me concentrate and also
catch some of the dialog that is not spoken clearly enough
      for my ears.

Sometimes when I miss stuff, I have to go back via TiVO
and rewatch the preceding scene again and then when a
commercial comes on, I skip through it, to catch-up.

I also find it useful for shows like Modern Family where the
dialog & quips come at viewers so quickly it is hard for me
to get everything in such rapid fire. (I don't think that I was
able to think as quickly as most people, even when I was
      younger.)

As a sidenote: it really annoys me to go to football bars
where the noise level is frequently high and
that don't have the closed captions turned on.

Can you say "Super Bowl" boys and girls ?
