Divorce in Muslim countries is relatively simple. The Muslim woman
      gets nothing unusually.
      (a) She can file for divorce in some Muslim counties. She must forfeit
1/2 of her dowry and in most cases agree not to seek spousal support
for herself or the children. The balls always in the man's court yard!
She has little or no legal standing in the Muslim court system.
      (b) The male child may remain with the mother until he's 7 yrs old,
      providing the father agrees.
      (c) In most Muslim countries the first wife does not have to be
notified by her husband that he's divorcing her, taking another wife or
      has taken a mistress.
      (d) Women in Muslim countries are not permitted to inherit their
husband's estates nor their father's. Instead the inheritance goes to
the oldest male member of her family. This could be her son or other
      eldest family male member.
      (e) Muslim women are not permitted to travel without written consent of
their husband or oldest male family member
      (f) Muslim girls between the ages of 2-14 yrs old are vaginally
mutilated/circumcision. This does not stop because they move to another
country that prohibits this practice. They simply bring over someone
from their own country to perform this mutilation or send the child
back to their native country for the circumcision
      (g) Illiteracy rate among Muslim women is very high. As much as 69% in
      some countries.
With all the influx of Muslims into the USA, I don't know how this will
affect Muslim women's status or human rights as they usually are very
segregated from the main stream public & remain in their tight knit
communities they establish where ever they go.
My hear breaks for the injustices these women endure all their lives.
I'm working now with a global women rights group that reaches out to
the Muslim women to educate & minister to their needs. Faye
