Prosecuted for Exercising Freedom of Speech!
- Prosecuted for Exercising Freedom of Speech! In 1996, I became a follower and promoter of the theories of nationally-known income tax protester Irwin Schiff of Las Vegas, Nevada. Schiff believes that there is no law making anyone liable for federal income taxes and that anyone can legally stop paying them. Schiff also believes that the Internal Revenue Code is purposely written in such a confusing manner so as to hide the fact that there is no law making the income tax mandatory. Schiff has convinced many thousands of Americans that his theories are correct. I became so convinced that for a number of years I conducted my own seminars disseminating his informtion. For a long time I have also attempted to expose government corruption and the manipulation and control of our government by wealthy and powerful special interest groups. I have done so by writing letters-to-the-editors, by writing opinion pieces, etc. and sending them out by e-mail, by fax and by regular mail.I never had any problems until I sent out an opinion piece on December 28, 2001 (three and a half months after the September 11th attacks) asking the simple question "Which country stands to benefit the most from the United States being dragged into a war with all of Israel's enemies?" I also pointed out in my piece that something else happened on September 11, 2001 which the controlled, mainstream media had swept under the rug. That day, President Bush learned of the terrorist attacks while he was in Florida speaking with some school children. Shortly thereafter, he and his staff boarded Air Force One to return to Washington. However, their plans changed dramatically when they learned that some unknown person or persons had gleaned the secret daily codes of Air Force One that day and that Air Force One might also be a target. The pilot immediately scrambled the plane up to 40,000 feet to get above any potential danger. He then flew the President to a secure Air Force base in Alabama or Louisiana and then later on to another secure Air Force base in the Mid-West. Only after the President's people believed that they had the situation firmly in hand did they dare attempt to return to Washington. (I have recently seen film footage showing the President's return to the White House after September 11th. 6 helicopters were used (5 of them being decoys). Some of them took turns making attempted landings to see if they would be attacked. After a while, the President's helicopter finally landed on the White House lawn. It was very interesting to watch.I pointed out in my opinion piece that there was no way that Osama bin Laden (a former CIA operative himself, as was Saddam Hussein) would have been able to glean the secret daily codes of Air Force One that day while sitting in a cave somewhere in Afganistan. However, I also pointed out that it would have been very easy for any number of dual-loyalists to both the United States and Israel, such as CIA Director George Tenet, or FBI Director Louis Freeh, or White House Spokesman Ari Fleischer, or any number of other high-ranking officials to have acquired the secret daily codes of Air Force One that day and passed them on to others in order to make it look like terrorists had somehow gleaned them.Anyway, on January 9, 2002, 12 days after I sent out my opinion piece (and this was after years of openly challenging the income tax laws without experiencing any problems), 15 to 20 armed IRS Special Agents were at my door with a search warrant authorizing them to search for evidence that I had violated the internal revenue laws. In March of this year (a year and two months later) I was indicted on 18 felony violations of the internal revenue laws.It is obvious that the Government targeted me because I exercised my First Amendment right of freedom of speech by expressing my belief that Israel was behind the September 11th attacks when one considers the fact that my mentor (a nationally-known tax protester and 1996 candidate for the Libertarian Party Presidential nomination) was not targeted by the Government until over a year after I was targeted. And then he was only targeted because I raised such a fuss over the fact that the Government had gone after me, but that it had left him alone. If Attorney General Ashcroft and the Justice Department were truly interested in cracking down on income tax theory promoters, they certainly would have gone after the head man first, rather than an underling such as myself. So there you have it. I believe that I was targeted by the Government because I exercised my First Amendment right of free speech and expression. And I am not the only one. There are many others in this country whom the Government and its controllers and manipulators have silenced and are attempting to silence because they do not like what we have to say.Whatever happened to the notion that the only way to get to the truth of a matter is through open and honest discussion and debate? The way that things are going, it won't be long before we won't have any freedoms left to lose.Steven A. Swan stevenswan@... (603) 483-0550P.O. Box 453, Auburn, NH 03032
