More so than that is the references in the article like "petitioned the Obama Administration" and "for the Obama administration to consider". Those remarks could be chalked up to uninformed political correctness.... maybe. Isn't it Congress that deals with things like this?

Once conquered does not, by any means, guarantee always conquered.  The corporate yoke can be tossed off without firing a shot.  The seceding States can refuse to submit taxes, obey any law absent a constitutional foundation and arrest and hassle all Federal agents 'unlawfully acting' in the several republics.  The simple act of a State tangling the 'lawful money' issue could grind the Fed's authority to dust.

We in NM have experience with the exhaustion of patience with Federal Officers in the Forest Service.  The Commissioners of Catron County, during a particularly contentious meeting with same offered to convene a grand jury, on the spot, and test the authority of the actors.  The offer was declined and the matter was settled amicably to the Commissions satisfaction.

It can be done.  The problems arise when 'patriots' start shooting; their mouths or their guns.
