      You mentioned that you were at sea. Is it safe to assume that you are
      active duty military?

      If so, you have the protection of the Soliers and Sailors Relief Act.
      This act puts a stay on all legal proceedings against you until you
      return to the States and are able to get competant legal counsel. If
      you are on ship, contact your legal officer or your Chief Master-at-
      Arms. They will both be well versed in this Act and can assist you in
      notifying the District Attorney of your status under the Act.

      If anything this will give you some breathing room to work out your
      options. I hope this helps.
